It's funny they added the "HD" in it, as if it will be something different or new that hasn't been seen before. Simply put, every digital 3D theater (Real D or Dolby 3D) is either HD or higher. HD usually isn't mentioned when it comes to digital cinema due to the fact the highest HD resolution (1080p equivalent) is the lowest for digital cinema. But it sure does sound cooler to say HD!

Now that I got that out of the way, I really can't wait for this attraction! I have always wanted the Spider-man system to make its way west, and I do like the Transformer franchise a lot more than Spider-man, so this is like a double win for me!

I have no inside sources, but knowing Universal's past, my guess is that there will be no animatronics in the ride. There will be plenty of physical props, but all the characters will just be rendered in 3d. Animatronics is one area where Universal has never been very good. The only ride I can think of that utilizes animatronics that are done well is The Mummy.

It's going to be sad to see the Special Effects Stage go away. That was a part of the original tram tour -- you would stop and get off and see a similar show in the soundstage.

And many people might not know this, but that is the soundstage where they filmed The Munsters. (And I am sure other famous TV shows and movies).

Oh well. At least I know that DIP Jr will be very excited to hear this news.

I remember back in the day when the loading area for the tram was where the Waterworld stunt show and part of CityWalk area is today. After passing the burning house, where the fire station is now, the tram would drop guests off to where Special effects stage stands, for now =)

The building where Mummy is now used to be a prop warehouse and the tram would drive through it after picking you up from the lower lot after seeing the special effects show.

It sounds cool as hell. But USH's mummy is just awful compared to USF's version. I understand the reasons why, but I'm not going to get excited about this. Fool me once.

Does anybody know what they did (if anything) down in the Lower Lot to compensate for ET being closed down for construction of The Mummy Ride?

While it sounds very cool, I just have to comment:

They are removing a show that takes 5 minutes to view and another that takes 30 minutes to view, for a 4-minute attraction that could have a monster line. If they could've salvaged the Special Effects Stages, I could swallow this down much easier.

Personally, I think they should compensate by building a coaster similar to the one they're building in Florida now, either on the upper lot or lower lot. If the upper, the inexplicably unused Wild West Show theater could be demolished for the load building, and technically it would be a gain. (since the Wild West Show has been closed so long)

Hopefully Transformers will actually be worth the demolition, unlike a certain Mummy attraction...

I agree that it doesn't make sense to be losing 2 attractions for 1, but I just don't see that type of rollercoaster coming to Universal Studios Hollywood because of the noise issue.

Someone else on another message board raised the idea that the Lower Lot needs a facelift. Maybe they need to expand it a little and shift the Special Effects Stages to an adjacent soundstage.

I made the suggestion that if and when Backdraft and SFX stages and perhaps the soundstage behind them become TRANSFORMERS, that a new SFX might be possible to construct on the hill close to the loading area of the studio tour. Then Backdraft could be part of the studio tour on the lot... like driving from the Metropolitan streetscape inside a studio ala King Kong. Or combine aspects of Backdraft with the new King Kong.

There's also the "empty" Chinese restaurant near the Frankenstein parking structure. Something built there could possibly have access around the Terminator exit/ Coke Soak area.

If and when that coke contract is up, it's probably wiser to put the children's play area back where coke soak is. That area is on top of the parking structure and doesn't require much support like Terminator. Then the Curious George play area could be freed up for an attraction and perhaps foot traffic to and from the Gibson Theater. Since apparently once the Gibson contract is up, something new would take its place.

I'm not sure what to make of this, but Michael Bay posted a blog on his website about the Transformers ride:

Michael Bay update from the Middle East | None | michael bay

The shooting in the the Middle East is ground breaking - an awesome time had by all the crew.

The Transformer Ride at Universal making all the press rounds - not sure yet - they had me in a press release saying I supported it - but Universal has a long way to go in my mind. I don't support it yet - I'm not involved and not sure the story of the ride works, and I know Optimus is not going to just show up to be directed by some new people that have never worked with him. I hate when people bull**** a quote from me that I never said.

I'll keep you informed. Maybe the guy making the rides at Universal will direct Transformers 3????

The person cleaning up the trashcans at the Transformers ride could probably do a better job.
