    Re: Transformers Ride Construction

I love 3D attractions, including Spider-Man and Toy Story Mania, so I'm looking forward to Transformers. Anyone know when it's scheduled to open?

    Re: Transformers Ride Construction

Its interesting that both of their big attractions that will open within the next few years are supposedly heavily based on 3d screens.

The new King kong attraction is also suppose to use the 3d screen quite heavily.

the backdraft building does not seem very large, unless they plan to gutt the other soundstages connected to it and use them as well.

I have not read much about this attraction but are we sure they will be using the same kind of ride system as Spiderman. The way the artwork shows the vehicle it could very well be a motion simulator in front of 3d dimensional sets with a large screen in the background to add dept to the scene.

    Re: Transformers Ride Construction

I was at USH last Thursday, and there is no evidence of upcoming construction near the Backdraft building. Backdraft is still open as of then.

On the subject of 3D films/Motion Simulators, I think that USH is too heavy on these, with the new Simpsons ride, Terminator 2 3D, and Shrek 4D. It could use a more traditional dark ride, and the Backdraft/Special Effects buildings are certainly big enough for something. They can always convert a few nearby soundstages as well.

Screamscape reported via Variety that the attraction will utilize the spaces currently occupied by Backdraft and the Special Effects Soundstages attractions with construction set for after Labor Day.

That's been known since the project was announced.

Backdraft was, and still is for the moment, a great special effects experience attraction. I keep a little place in my heart for these attraction. They are simple but fun and exciting when it gets down to the meat of the experience. This is one area of the field Universal does really well, making you feel apart of the action. Sadly it seems like they are slowly fading away.

But this Transformers attraction looks to be on an e-ticket scale. I'm really looking forward to what they have in store.

I loved Backdraft too, and I missed the other Special Effects thing next to it, so I guess I'll never get to see it now... However, I'd gladly sacrifice either of these for a great E-ticket ride. However, everything (almost) at USH seems to be a major E-ticket attraction, so it may be better to let this one slide.

I know that; I had to reiterate the dates for other people who are posting responses as to why there is no noticeable construction of the attraction.

I hope this ride turns out great. I probably won't go back to Universal until its opening.

From what I understand, it does not just include the Backdraft/Special effects buildings, but also the stages behind them. I've also heard they are going to dig-down quite a bit.

As far as using hte spiderman system, I haven't heard confirmation of that, but it's pretty likely as far as I know.

FYI, if the ride is ANYTHING like Spiderman at IOA, there is no comparison to a 3D film/motion simulator. None.

So does anyone have any more info on this? It seems like they announced this project a little too early...

Well DLR announced Carsland and Mermaid in 2007 and they barley both started construction. Construction for Transformers should start soon because it's due around the same time frame as mermaid. Except they dont need to demo and building for TF, they already have the sound stages up. We will see.

Poor Backdraft? What about poor Sound Effects Stage? That was part of the original tour. Closing that would be like Disney closing Peter Pan/Toad/Alice and sticking in a ride about G-force or something.
