Thumbs up First Transformers Contruction Pictures!!!

Yep The Special Effects Show and BackDraft are GONE, off the park maps and construction walls around the area of the two sound stages. Here is the first (of many) updates.

With that now done, I wonder what USH is going to do to supplement Jurassic Park and The Mummy Ride in the lower lot for two years. Even with Special Effects Stages moving to the Castle Theatre, that still leaves only about 10 rides and shows (not including Curious George and the NBC Universal Experience) in the park. As much as I like that they're getting a new major ride, I really think USH needs to get to the point where they're adding attractions instead of just replacing older ones with new ones.

I'm not sure if USH really has a whole lot of room to be working with to be building out instead of demoing old rides.

And actually 3 things are closed, for now, with no show in the "Creature" theater.

Oh, just a comment, on the construction walls. Wow! Plywood, unpainted. At least DL has at least spent a couple extra dollars to dress up all their construction wall. Universal can take a lesson in that department.

I know they don't have alot of breathing room to expand, but I don't think they're using the space they do have to its potential.

Wow! I was JUST thinking that they should install the special effects stages into the Castle Theater, and when I heard that may be a possibility, I looked it up on Screamscape:

(4/5/10) Need more proof that a new version of the Special Effects Soundstage show going into the Castle Theater? Universal Hollywood is holding auditions this Friday to cast two host rolls for a new Summer 2010 show “all about filmmaking” that “pits old school special effects against today’s digital techniques”. The show host rolls being cast are described as an old school “tech guru” and a younger 20-something tech-savvy hipster type.
(4/2/10) I’ve been told that work has begun to install a new version of the Special Effects show into the Castle Theater. According to what I’m told, the new show concept will put the fly rigs from the former Creature show to use as well as showing off entirely new sets and effects. They’re shooting to get it installed in time for this Summer. Meanwhile more insiders have confirmed the April 11th date for the closure of Backdraft and Special Effects Studios. The clock is ticking…
Huh. As long as they keep the Foley bit, the show will be a smash hit. From what I take, the "Sound Lab" was always the most popular part of Cinemagic and Special Effects Stages. Little do they know how much audiences eat participation like that up.

Seriously? The walls have been up for less than 2 days. Disney ALWAYS has blank walls before they put their skins on as well. Don't be so quick to judge, especially about something as small as Construction Walls! I think Universal actually does much better walls than Disney anyway. The Simpsons ride walls and the new HP walls are awesome vs. Disney's wall graphics.

If the Special Effects show takes place in the Castle Theater, that will mean no more productions shows in there. I still miss the Wild Wild West Stunt Show, but now they won't really have many shows other than Waterworld. I remember back in the day, the first time I went it was Miami Vice, the Wild Wild West Stunt Show and some kind of Conan show. They didn't have any rides back then either, just the studio tram tour.

Transformers was WAY too effects heavy for me and half the time I didn't know what was going on anyway since the camera cut so many freakin' times. I guess the classic days of filmmaking are over. Anyone can put a lot of random action on the screen when it goes by in 3 shots every second. It seems directors today are scared of what might happen if they actually let a shot go longer than 5 seconds.

I just miss the old Universal Studios... the actual film studio that happened to have small-scale attractions attached to it, more than the theme park that just happens to be a working movie studio.

I agree, a good theme park needs a balance of shows and attractions.

I do hope the Transformers attraction is as good, or better than Spider-Man in Orlando. As far as the movie, what do you expect ... it's a Michael Bay film.

I don't see Universal going back to shows since rides keep people coming back for years, Shrek, the Tram, Jurassic Park and the Mummy.

FYI the plywood is gone and the entire area is surrounded by a green refurb wall.

I have pics but they're part of tomorrow's "In The Parks" update along with a whole bunch of other stuff including studio tour refurbs and a new character show.

Now if you look on Screamscape, you'll notice they put a themed Transformers construction wall already! It may get better in the next couple of months or so. It just says TRANSFORMERS and shows a silhouette of a robot on it. I'm sure by January (Or most likely MUCH sooner than that, maybe summer) they'll put up a sign saying, TRANSFORMERS: Summer 2011! Glad to see they're not fooling around with it.

    Re: First Transformers Contruction Pictures!!!

I find it hilarious they always advertise their small indie movies on the escalators' side posts. In August it was Away We Go. Now it's Babies (whatever the hell that is).

Anywho, I FIND IT VERY HARD TO BELIEVE THAT ANYONE WANTS CREATURE BACK. I'm still ashamed to have actually been excited to see it. It was like going into The Dark Knight and getting Epic Movie.

I believe the SES is temporary for the Castle Theater for now. I mean, even if it were permanent, it's not like we'd be missing anything great anyway. EVERY show in there other than Beetlejuice has been a complete failure. I too wish they would occupy their WWW arena space as well, put in some make shift benches for the summer and take them down for HHN. I like, SERIOUSLY miss that show.
