Talking HHN 2011 Auditions Have Been Announced!

This is from John Murdy, HHN creative director:

Audition dates for current employees, past HHN employees and current AGVA members:

    • July 9th Bill & Teds
    • July 10th Scareactors

    Open Call Audition Dates:

    • July 18th and 19th - Scareactors
    • July 19th - Bill & Teds

Hope a bunch of you can audition, it's an amazing job. Sadly, I can't be part of it this year. My acting career has picked up too much to take the time out to do this (yay for my acting career, but I'm sad I'll miss my HHN family).

I am a 3 year veteran of HHN so if you are planning on auditioning and have a question, feel free to ask me.

First of all, they need to make sure you will fit in one of the positions open. Pretty much every body type, size, gender, and look could fit in, there just might be a limited number of spots for each type.

Don't go in costume. It can be distracting and might make the audition difficult for you.

In the audition, they will ask some simple questions (why you want to work at HHN). Then you will be asked to scream and do some movement to music (not dancing, more like walking like zombies or something). That's pretty much it!

Most important: be yourself! Also be aware that HHN is a marathon event and you need to prepare physically for it! Running around for a 10-12 hour shift can be exhausting!

    Good luck!

I am actually a bit nervous for the audition. I have been involved in the haunt industry for about 10+ years now and Im pretty scared for what they are going to ask. lol I would like to work streets because I have experience in doing that but it seems like the odds of doing that are all based on what they want.
As long as I don't get a "prop" roll as I like to call it, the victim people. Have had too much experience to just be stagnant in a maze or scene.
Terror tram, streets, or maze rolls that have me walking around in a room. Im crossing my fingers.

Do they like experience or do they just look over that?
Can you suggest different rolls you would be interested in?
Whats the next step if you do get hired and on nights how early do you have to get to the park for costume and makeup? (Knotts is about 2/3 hours and an event in San Diego was about an hour/hour and a half)

They do like experience, but they also like newbies who are very enthusiastic. You can say that you would like to work in a certain area (I always liked working Terror Tram), but there's no guarantee.

Call times vary for work nights. If you have a lot of prosthetic work (I did), call time can be as early as 3pm. But you do get paid for all the time you sit and wait, so it's a good thing. And they try to stagger schedules so everyone works the same amount of time.

If you get cast, you will have to go to the costume department to get fitted, go to orientation to find out about the rules and joining the union (everyone is in AGVA), then there is scare academy where you learn how to scare. Finally, you'll have one night of rehearsal for your particular area and then the event starts.

It might seem like a lot, but trust me, the time from July until November goes by so quickly!

Thanks for the info. Cleared up a lot.
Yeah time defiantly goes by really quickly. Looking forward to auditioning. Would love to add Universal to my list of haunts I have worked.

Oops. Sorry. I should have included that info. I was just so excited that auditions are coming up for people who have asked me in the past when they were.

Ah, I thought this was a HHN thread in general (but I already had my audition date before posting here).
