    New Universal Plaza Now Open!

After months of construction, this park finally has its new central plaza. It looks really nice in this video, but I have yet to experience it in person.

Just a big water play area with jets that shoot up. In my opinion it is a waste of a nice size area. I know they are losing Curious George, but neither I nor my kids find it appealing.

Ugh, when are people going to learn to hold their phone horizontally when recording video?

I thought it was going to be more like a park. I didn't think it was going to be some water spout area. At least add some trees. It's such a huge empty spot : /

    I think it looks great!

The park is going to need a large open space for the seasonal events and to help move crowds around during construction and for when the Wizarding World comes online.

Huge improvement over what was there, and looks fantastic at night!

Super Silly Fun Land will be the replacement for Curious George. This is just a stopgap until that opens up in the Spring.

Thanks for the video link but... WHY do people hold their phone the wrong/bad way when they film? If its worth the effort to post it on Youtube its worth the effort to turn the cam sideways to get a full picture... but nooo.

Oh well... Off topic and now back again.

I was a bit underwhelmed by it, but it is nice for what it is, and it does bring a nice openness to the area. I imagine they left it fairly open so that it can be a sort of "flex" space, such as being used for a future Haunt maze, Grinchmas, and any other special events they can come up with.
Does anyone even bother with signatures anymore?

Not everyone understands that concept, no need to harp on it.

Thanks for the video OP, I think the plaza is a good start. Looks like it could use a few more trees though!

I'm looking forward to how the space evolves as the landscaping grows in and such - it's a nice public-ish area.

As to whether or not they're putting Grinchmas in there - am I alone in hoping that with HHN now occurring partially on the lower lot, they may just move Grinchmas to the Grinch set?

    I can dream, right?

It would be cool, but, you have the neighbors to deal with. I'm sure they would throw a fit if they built the tree lighting ceremony arena anywhere near those sets.

I'm not entirely sure they can't reach an accomodation - this year HHN includes Courthouse Square and two mazes on the Backlot, and they've used the Bates Motel/House/War of the Worlds set for the past few years as well (complete with loud soundtracks and chainsaws). Grinch is right next to those.

Re: New Universal Plaza Now Open!

I like how they used the space. It looks a lot more open than before. I think it's a great space to have events that seem to have been lacking in recent years in the park.

My only concern is the fact that they placed plants to grow on the columns supporting the structure of the plaza with plants that have THORNS. Large ones at that. It's a concern since it's a theme park with a large portion of the attendance being children. It caught my eye as I was waiting in line for sketches at the SpongeBob SHELL-abration yesterday. I saw kids standing near it and realized how easily it could become an issue.
