Big shark by Doc Browns chicken upper lot

We were there last Sunday (9/15/13) and noticed that behind the wall they put up to cover construction, that the big shark was gone. The wooden stand to hold it was there but no shark. I couldn't get a good shot as you could only really see the upper part of it. Does anyone know if they have plans to remove it permanently? It seems like it is one of the busiest photo ops in the park. I hope they don't get rid of it. This photo is from January 2013.

it's already gone, completely demolished, just like the Studio Souvenirs shop next to it, and pretty much everything in that walled off area. As for what they plan on doing with it, nothing has been said yet.

That's a little far afield from the initial locations in the Master Plan. I'd be more inclined to believe a Simpsons area expansion closer to what USF just got than HP taking that area as well.

It COULD be, but it's just a bit far away from the main areas of development (the amphitheatre, Curious George, potentially Shrek). It'd also portend for a truly ugly time getting to the Studio Tour within the next few months.

    That's about what I remembered.

There may be a change or two already occuring - I keep hearing the Waterworld show staff's been signed until at least the end of the busy season 2014 (note, not actually sourced, just rumor I keep reading).

None of this is directly on the area in discussion unless I'm reading this wrong. Hmmm.

Well, plans do change. Wonder what they're up to?

Oh, and while not indicative of anything other than past history - they *have* taken the shark down for refurb before. Last year he was gone for about two weeks, IIRC.

The structures behind would argue a more substantial rebuild, but this could be simply that - a rebuild of what's more or less already there.

If you compare his Orlando cousin, the one we have in California looks really fake.

Oh and "the shark", his name is JAWS...

LOL I wasn't aware they'd actually named the one in-park. I know the animatronic one is Bruce in honor of the original.

To my knowledge, the shark has been moved into storage for now. The wooden supports were demolished though.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is just a refurb. It seems rediculous that they would remove one of their more popular photo opp locations. By the way, the Orlando cousin has always been called Bruce for as long as I can remember, even with the "JAWS!" tag on it. He's been moved to the San Fransisco Wharf area ever since they demolished 😥 the Amity area. I will always miss the Amity Boat Tours ride but I'm still looking forward to Diagon Alley next year.

I hope he comes back....that new middle part of the park would be a good place...to add him and maybe the car from Back to the Future..and a few other iconic things to take picture in front of and bring more life to the area

The area was demolished because The Simpsons expansion construction site is going to spill over into the WWoHP construction site. That area will see redevelopment as expected but do not expect to see anything until Springfield nears completion. For the time being it's being used as extra space for WWoHP.

I don't know where these Hollywood Springfield rumors got started, but all construction in the park current is for WWOHP or DM.

I'm not 100% certain that this is true - having been in the last few days, the area in question is either going to represent a major spar of HP themeing thrusting into the heart of the upper area pretty far away from the heart of the land, or it's something else (way too far away and disconnected from DM to be that).

They've pretty much leveled everything between the Mexican restaurant and the new plaza. Traffic routes around the Animal Actors stage now. It's barely contiguous with the HP area if you allow for the traffic lane by Shrek, but I'm thinking unless there's a lot more demo work to be done in that area it's likely something else. Maybe a shop refurb?

    *edit*

The old game row between the Flinstones BBQ and Shrek is also behind walls - the HHN night I went the only carny games I saw at *all* were the little "temp" shacks by Simpsons.
