Classic Attractions vs Dated at Universal Studios Orlando

With JAWS closing I wanted to take a look at the current attraction line up at both Florida studios parks. To talk about Disney Hollywood Studio click here.

So I want to see what people consider classic and dated.

(Date when attraction opened or received a major refurbishment)

    Classic:
    • ET Adventure (1990)
    • Universal's Horror and Make-up Show (1990)
    • Lucy: A Tribute (1990)
    • The Blues Brothers Show (1991)
    • Curious George Goes to Town (2008)
    • Men In Black Alien Attack (2000)

    Current:
    • Beattlejuice's Rock and Roll Graveyard Revue (1992)
    • A Day in the park with Barney (1995)
    • Woody Woodpecker's Nuthouse Coaster (1999)
    • Revenge of the Mummy: The Ride (2004)
    • Fear Factor LIVE (2005)
    • Animal Actors Live (1998/2006)
    • The Simpson's Ride (2008)
    • DISASTER! (1990/2009)
    • Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit (2009)

    Dated:
    • Fieval's Playland (1992)
    • T2: 3D (1996)
    • Twister: Ride it out (1998)
    • Shrek 4-D (2003)

Nice idea for a thread. Totally agree, although I can't vouch for Lucy, Blues Brothers, and Curios George as I've never experiences them.

I do love how current the park is, but I wouldn't mind having some more attractions that are classic.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!

I visited Universal Studios Orlando for the first time this past spring and I must say, the park absolutely sucks compared to Islands of Adventure. There is no sense of an entrance, there are minimal attractions, and not one outstanding attraction. The entire park needs a big update.

Revenge of the Mummy is outstanding IMO.

    I also really like ET.

Jaws was awesome but it is closing.

    I enjoy the Simpsons.

    The rest........meh.

I would say T2 is a classic--arguably the best show of its kind in the world.

I'm already mourning the loss of ET even though it hasn't happened. When it does, I feel it'll be a tremendous loss for Universal.
At IOA, I'm very disappointed that Poseidon's Fury will be giving way to even more Potter. I'd rather they put it somewhere else.

I love Poseidon's fury. whenever I am at IOA and taking people, I always make sure to take them on it.

I am constantly amazed how many people who are frequent visitors to IOA who have never been on PF.

While I love the show, I think if they were to do an overlay with WWOHP it would be amazing.

What I would have loved is it they'd made PF an actual ride. I'm thinking Universe of Energy-style huge cars that travel slowly between the showscenes. The sloshing of all the bodies from room to room sort of killed the momentum of the story, which is a shame because it's such a very grand attraction to begin with.

I experienced Poseidon's Fury for the first time last year and it was a pleasant surprise. It was kind of hokey/cheesy, but in a good way. And the special effects were pretty dang awesome. I was glad I finally took the time to see this one.

The original version of Poseidon's Fury was much better (and less cheesy.) But since the WWoHP expansion is replacing Jaws, it appears to be safe for now.

I find it hard to be dated when unlike Disneyland or other theme parks, which have several rides dating back to the parks being, soon the only opening day ride at USO will end up being E.T.
The fountain of youth really is in Florida... thats why they built Walt Disney World where they did.
