Re: KONG is returning to USH

This is some really awesome, good news from what was originally a very, very bad day at USH, even though the fire happened on my birthday. I can't wait for the big Banana Breath's return. My only concern is what they will make of the new attraction.

I'm disappointed to hear it most likely won't be an animatronic. I guess it depends how they pull it off, but it sounds like they're taking the cheap route.

Sound like another Toy Story Mania, without the pull guns.

Article in today's Daily Variety says that "guests will wear 3-D glasses as they travel through Skull Island and encounter a swarm of monstrous bats before winding up in the middle of a fight between King Kong and a 35 foot tall dinosaur."

It will be based on Peter Jackson's 2005 "King Kong" not the 1976 pic that mostly took place in New York City.

3-D glasses?

I don't think that's very plausible... would they give them to people at the start of the tour, or just pass them out as they go along, or have them waiting on the tram? Doesn't make sense to me.

It's 3D screens around the trams, yup.

I wonder if Kong and the Dinosaur will dance the Macarena?

As the t-rex that Kong fights is described as being 35' tall, I would assume that these will be actual giant animatronics. Can't say for sure until we hear more, or else when the attraction opens.

They'll more lilely dance the pee pee dance. Can you immagine being stuck in that sound stage 24 hours a day, and no place to go.

Nikki Finke’s Deadline Hollywood Daily AFTER THE FIRE: Universal Studios Tour Brings Back King Kong In 4-D for 2010, Makes Other Tour Enhancements

According to Deadline Hollywood, the trams will take you on the traditional tour plus they will function as mobile movie theaters. HD monitors will feature Ron Howard, Steven Speilburg and Stephen Sommers, along with actor personalities. The monitors will also serve to enhanse the tram experience by featuring clips from the films and tv shows you encounter during the tram tour.

This summer, Conan O'Brien will commense shooting the Tonight show at a newly constructed soundstage on the studio lot.

Yuck. Turning something that was a physical effect into just another film.

I thought the point of Universal was to "ride the movies" -- it, make them real. Not to turn a movie into yet another movie, but to make scenes and characters that we know take on a physical presence. Oh well.

Your right. If i want to watch king kong take on a dinosaur in a movie scene, I can watch the movie at home and see him take on 3 dinosaurs. Hopefully there will be be a more physical presence like you said and it isnt a quick King Kong in 4d.

More than likely have them available on the tram in pouches behind the seats. Hopefully they will steam-sanitize these things after every trip like they do at the other 3D attractions.
