Is Comcast interested in buying NBC Universal?

The LA Times is reporting that Comcast is "Kicking the tires" of NBC Universal.

Comcast, which has almost 25 million subscribers, has been looking to expand its entertainment offerings for several years. In NBC Universal it would get not only a big broadcast network and movie studio, but several powerful cable channels, including USA, Syfy, CNBC, MSNBC and Bravo.
These have been tough economic times for GE, it's just possible that they might actually bite if the price was right.

Reminds me of AOL's takeover of TW right before the Internet bubble burst.

Comcast has been kicking the tires, so to speak. But they're interested in the content library of NBC Universal more than any other part of the pie- If they did make an offer, I wouldn't be surprised to see them acquire NBC Universal, then sell the parks to Blackstone.

GE, Comcast agree on NBC Universal valuation

GE, Comcast agree on NBC Universal valuation: source | Deals | Reuters

General Electric Co. and Comcast Corp have agreed on a valuation of around $30 billion for a joint venture between NBC Universal and Comcast, ironing out what has been a key obstacle in talks so far, a source familiar with the matter said on Sunday.

The resolution of that issue brings the parties one step closer to an agreement, but French media conglomerate Vivendi, which owns 20 percent of NBC Universal, has not yet agreed to a deal, the source said.

The source spoke on condition of anonymity because details of the discussions have not been made public.

GE, which owns 80 percent of NBC Universal, declined comment, as did Comcast. Vivendi was not immediately available for comment.

The two sides have been in talks to reach a deal that would give Comcast a 51-percent stake in the NBC Universal venture.

IAAPA sent out a link to this post in their email newsletter this morning:

Will Comcast keep Universal parks? -- OrlandoSentinel.com

Looks like speculation is leaning towards the media giant hanging onto the parks for the time being.
