How long to do both parks?

My family is currently planning a vacation to Orlando for Spring of 2011. We will be going during peak Spring Break season and are going for 8 days, to both Walt Disney World and Universal Studios Orlando. We are wondering how long it takes to do both Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida with an Express pass on one of those days, 1 day? 2 days? How long?

    I appreciate any suggestions.

Reserve at least one day per park.

With express pass? 8, 9 hours or so (a whole day, max). You can knock out IOA easily in the morning and spend the rest of the day at the studios.
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

    Huh?

Definitely 2 days.......especially since The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will be open and no doubt be very busy over the next couple of years. Personally, I could spend a good 3 or 4 days at Universal........much more relaxing and fun than anything at Disney IMO.

Oh, yeah, I totally forgot about Harry Potter. I would give a day for IOA then because it will be crazy. Otherwise IOA is a half day park. US could be a full day park, but with the fastpass, you won't be spending as much time in line.

IOA is not a half-day park for someone who has never been there before, regardless of whether or not Wizarding World is open (it opens in May.) People always rush through the Universal parks and then they wonder why they didn't enjoy them as much. IOA has more attractions than USF, by the way.

IoA is not a half day park- at all. It has PLENTY to do in a day. If you are not using the Express Pass or staying on USFR grounds, then use a day at each park with one extra day just in case IoA is completely packed.

The lines for Spidey, Hulk, Popeye, Dudley, and Jurassic are often very high and can easily throw off your whole schedule. I went to IoA in Summer '08 and only got 2 things done after hours of waiting. It was miserable.... and if you go when WWoHP opens all I can say is 'good luck, you'll need it.'

USF doesn't have very many high lines besides the new HRRR. This day shouldn't be too bad.

When I go around May/June, I'm going to be staying on grounds to avoid lines and go on HP over and over.

It was for me. If I had wanted to get wet, it would have taken a little longer. And with the fastpass, he won't have to wait in nearly as long of lines - though the lines there weren't too bad since we went there first thing in the morning. It is surprising that IOA has more attractions, since it seemed like there wasn't much to do. But we were done before Mythos opened for lunch. And spent the rest of the day at USF, sweating to death waiting in very long lines in outside queues!

But with the fastpass, lines shouldn't be that long, so you can get more stuff done.

Wow! Still close to 1 and a half year to go. That is a pretty long time. A lot of stuff can happening between today and spring 2011.

I hate to book my vacation that long apart because of what might happening such as losing my job etc.

    Anyway, have fun.

I also disagree with IOA being a half-day park. Unless the park is REALLY empty (which during Spring Break it won't be).

You will want to ride Spiderman MULTIPLE times and I'm sure with Harry Potter you will want to spend some time there as well.

    2 days minimum...wish we'd done that.

Was way too rushed trying to do both parks in one day along with a large group and lunch at Mythos and we had low crowds when we were there.
Mom, remember, it's not what a person is like on the outside that counts,
it's what they are like in their HEART!

But he has the fastpass. sure, if you wait in line for a hour plus then it's a whole day park. Spiderman was really cool but waiting in line an hour to see it again, no way. Waiting several hours to see it several times? Pass. But with the fastpass it makes it at least easier to see. So he ride it a few times without waiting as long.

Yeah, I agree NNL, with the Express Pass it will make it easier. The day we were there the longest line we had was 10 minutes for the Flying Unicorn. We rode Spiderman (I think) 5 or 6 times and that wasn't enough IMO. We rode Hulk I think 3 times and also Dueling Dragons.

But I can just spend an hour or two walking around Seuss Landing looking at all the cool stuff there.
