Re: King Kong to rejoin Universal tours in 3-D

well the whole Transformers ride will be in 3D
Universal has not stated that the Transformers ride will be in 3D. They have said that it will use a ride system similar to IOA's Spiderman, but the two pieces of concept art for "Transformers", show guests in ride vehicles, definitly not wearing any kind of glasses. So I think it will be like Spiderman, but not the 3D aspect.

My mistake. The official "Transformers" press release does say that the attraction will "fuse 3D/HD media". But those renderings tell me that they don't mean stereoscopic 3D. In fact, it looks like it might feature actual, full size AA figures, for those of us burned out on stuff projected on screens and passed off as state-of-the-art theme attractions. In other words: we may get large scale AAs again, with the "Transformers" ride.

Ugh, I'm glad I read this. I am about to take my first trip to Disneyland/USH and was sad I was going to miss the "new" Kong. I don't care how good it is, if it's just a 3-d movie I couldn't care less. How sad that Kong no longer lives.

Well Se what they do, the ride sounds like it will cost WAY TOO MUCH, since the ride will bring people in but enough to make as much as it will cost to make a couple of those huge robots plus 3D. The ride would be way cheaper if it was just in 3D plus if they did it like Spiderman it would be just fine.

While I wish they had just rebuilt the original animatronic and plussed it somehow, this does make it seem like it might be something special.

Although they declined to discuss the price tag for the 3-D production, theme park officials said the cost would be more than six times the price of rebuilding the destroyed mechanical Kong.
So they're not choosing to take the cheap way out at least.

I also wished they had rebuilt the original to a more updated version. Somehow I can't imagine watching Kong on screens to be more impressive than what they had before, no matter how much more they claim to be spending.

Yeah well they are re-shouting the scenes for the ride if they just used the shots from the movies I bet it would be a lot cheaper, its good to hear them put so much work towards something they could have done on the cheap but not be as cool.

e-rewards just sent me a survey on a possible ad for the return of Kong. First you see a wrecked USH entrance, a trashed freeway, a couple shown from the feet down and then some text about King Kong 360 3D coming this summer to USH with Kong's roar over it.

ThemeParkAdventure.com has a full report of the sneak peek Universal Studios gave to the media a few days ago. They had a full mock-up of the screens and effects, and from the report it sounds like it will be amazing!

Seriously. 2010-2012 have to be the best years for theme parks on either side of the coast/world in a LONG time.

Re: King Kong to rejoin Universal tours in 3-D

I'm a bit skeptical on the King Kong 3D. Really, a 3D movie comparred to REAL 3D AA's, the reall 3D win out. These days everyone can see 3D movies at their local theater. Universal really needs to amp it up a LOT more, for this to bring in people. I'm sure they will still have some additional effects (hopefully the tram will still be shaken, and I wonder about the banana breath? But like I said, REAL 3D is better than simulated 3D, PLUS the photos turn out much better with REAL 3D. Everyone loved pics of the former Kong, but unfortunately, they won't get any of the new one
