Re: King Kong to rejoin Universal tours in 3-D

Anyone know what type of Digital 3D system it is? RealD, Dolby, ExpanD, other, proprietary?

I too will miss the awesome animatronic Kong, nothing can replace it.

Re: King Kong to rejoin Universal tours in 3-D

Universal just sent out a press release with new details about Kong.

'King Kong 360 3-D' Created by Peter Jackson Emerges as a Next-Generation Theme Park Experience | Universal Studios Hollywood

This is the first thing that's actually made me somewhat excited about the new Kong.

It's still a 3D movie. The motion is an airbag system, not a gimble, so it's much less dramatic than Earthquake or the original Kong attraction. I'd rate it about as much of an "upgrade" to the Studio Tour as when the PeopleMover went from the Super Speed Tunnel to the Tron Tunnel.

Imagine if they would do the same thing with the "Earthquake" scene - I sure most would be disappointed about that too.

Uh, excuse me, how does 3D beat at the time and still is one of the world's biggest animatronics? Which happened to be a REAL physical product, hence it actually being IN 3D. I'm sorry, you could smell it too. 4D. And if you were brave enough, touch it, 5D. You get every sense imaginable from a practical effect and only 3 with a 3D screen. They moved backwards if anything.

^We will see what looks more real in the next couple of months but the SPIDERMAN RIDE, which has been around 4 a while feels real and its in 3D!

Well there is wind and smell effects during Kong so it is in 4D. And knowing USH attractions it will most likely squirt water at you.
I would rather have a 3d attraction that is exciting than the same boring Kong AA.

You guys are going to make me cry, seriously, lmao
I just can't find the logic in it. To see something with an actual weight and movement to it beats having to wear 3D glasses and looking at a projected screen any day. It could be the best 3D on the planet and it wouldn't match. They could've gotten a new AA and that would've been better but I'm still disappointed in this "3D movement." I might as well stay home and just look at my TV, it's the same effect!

^So you rather Transformers be all robots and have No 3D? The Tech is not amazing enough to make that as amazing as using 3D and having rockets and lasers flying at you.
Yes a New Kong would have been cool but these new 3D projectors will be cheaper over time PLUS easier to keep up and less maintenance time.

Re: King Kong to rejoin Universal tours in 3-D

If USH was able to make a Kong AA that moved and jumped and fights a giant T-Rex AA then YES.. i would be in favor of that over 3d. But.. since that will never happen anytime soon.. i would rather have a 360 degree (almost) 3d epic scene since that has never been done yet (to my knowledge)
