Actually, the article says "proposed 124-acre residential neighborhood would force the demolition or relocation of the Whoville village, the "Curse of the Mummy" revolving tunnel, the "War of the Worlds" plane crash set and the Falls Lake blue screen pond"
    So what exactly is staying?

I wonder if they're thinking about closing the park entirely once this gets going. Seems kind of pointless to keep it open (and charge what they do) for how little will remain.

Keep in mind this is a 20 year plan. If DCA can remodel over half of the park and be open in 5 years. There's no reason Universal should close. I am looking forward to these changes. Hopefully Universal will be a much better park, even though it's backlot will be gone, once the plans are done. I do love the backlot but it's not being used anywhere near as much as it once was, you might as well turn what's left of the park into a full day theme park.

I really wonder if there is still a chance for Forbidden Journey or a similar ride with all of this new space they will be freeing up. I think a small HP area with Forbidden Journey along with Transformers would surely drive attendance in the park.

HP has already been done. I personally would like to see Universal Creative bring something to the table that could potentially top Harry Potter rather than just cloning the whole area and wasting it on just one ride and a bunch of themed shops. I think Universal should take advantage of that new Pandoa's Box technology. I think it would be awesome! Something like this: YouTube - Revolutionary Rides - FF-DR Ad
