So as some if you know, today was the "official" grand opening of the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco. You were not permitted to take pictures unless you were part of the press, which we obviously weren't. So, I took a few pictures during the ribbon cutting and a few after that were also outside.
If anyone else has pictures that they'd like to post, feel free to on here. I know it's not much, but here are some pictures.

P.S I know that these pictures aren't the best quality, I took them from my phone.

The founding executive director of the museum, Richard Benefield, said a few words about the museum and then one of Walt's grandsons, Walter Disney Miller, said a few words as well.

To sum up the museum, it was completely amazing. There were so many hands-on thing to do, there were tons of original drawings of Disney movies, Walt's early cartoons, videos, audio recordings, a few interactive games, and (probably my favorite part) the model of Disneyland in the 1960's the way that Walt would have wanted it. It was so detailed and beautifully put together, it was hard to leave!

Me either. You're trying to link them from some kind of google mail acct. thing. They're not even .jpg images. You have to upload pics to some kind of hosting site (photobucket, flikr, tinypics, etc) and use the image code from those sites in order to show pictures.

Nice pix, Jill. I linked to mine in another thread, but since I finally learned how to insert images in a post, here goes. These were taken on Sunday, 9/20, on the second day of previews.

View from our parking space (free!), directly across from the entrance.


We arrived fifteen minutes early for our 10am entry time to find no crowds, no line, just another group walking around with their tickets like us making sure we were all in the right place.

We were.

Note no line 10 minutes before opening. The timed entry is nice in that it allows for leisurely viewing and no huge throngs crowding you.

View from the back emergency exit of the main building toward the bay. The fog obscured the view of the Golden Gate Bridge at 10am but it was clear and beautiful a couple hours later.


This tent was under construction for the opening ceremonies/events/gala. By the time we finished our visit the uprights were already in place. Wish I was invited to all the VIP stuff!

This glass paneling lines the length of Gallery 8: Walt + The Natural World on the second floor. It's designed so that can't help but take in the scenery outside (the bridge and bay) while you view the exhibit.


That's it! Not all that exciting, but I hadn't seen these views elsewhere and they're also kinda unique for their relative lack of humans therein, for the most part. (Gotta get up early to see that by now, I'm sure...) Enjoy!

BTW, I was interested to note on one of the local TV shows this week that one of the reasons for no photos inside (other than the delicate nature of the documents/sketches/etc., and the damage flash photography can do to them) is that many of the exhibits are on loan and under copyright, and therefore reproduction is an infringement! Hadn't though of that before, but I have to admit (grudgingly) that it makes sense.

Good pictures. Yeah, I was pretty let down when I found out that you couldn't take pictures once inside the museum. The sign out front btw, looks the same; it just doesn't have the "coming soon" part on it.
