    2010 Events & Screenings

    First, my apologies on my delays in reports on the Marty Sklar (11/22) and Memories of Walt (12/5) events; I've been super busy, but will have pictures and details up soon. Here's whats coming for 2010 (and I'm already there for Bob Gurr's presentation). Looks like the buzz I heard around in the past months proved true. See y'all there!

    Dive into 2010 with Walt Disney and Jules Verne. Explore the ocean with two of the world’s most imaginative visionaries in this incredible underwater film.

    Under the Sea: Discussion with Renowned Ocean Engineer Graham Hawkes
    3:00 pm, Theater tickets available online
    Discover the mysteries of the deep sea and learn about Walt Disney’s scientific and cultural contributions to society. Celebrated ocean engineer Graham Hawkes will discuss how imagination initiates exploration and leads to discovery. Graham will take you on a journey to the bottom of the ocean and show you the next generation of vehicles he is building to open the oceans for all to explore.

    Imaginations and creativity will soar with our new Disney Discoveries! The second Saturday of each month join us for family fun and activities in the Learning Center. The activities planned by our education staff will inspire the hidden artist in you while learning about the life and work of Walt Disney.

    The Disney Discoveries! activities are free with paid admission to the Museum. Members are always free and no ticket needed. Just show your membership card.

    Look Closer: The Underwater Camera and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

    Concert: This American Land: Music of the New World
    4:00 p.m., Special Exhibition Hall tickets available online
    Artists’ Vocal Ensemble takes a deep look into music of America. From Native Americans to Spanish missionaries to the film industry, our unique geography has shaped a beautiful and soulful tradition. We will celebrate Samuel Barber’s centennial, and discover the power of early-American Shape-note music, the music of Spanish missionaries, and the voice of local composers. This is an opportunity to enjoy a late-winter’s afternoon surrounded by magnificent music.

    From the fluttering of birds wings to the graceful gestures of humans, animatronics mimics life in all its forms. Discover how the first successful Audio-Animatronic figure, the majestic Mr. Lincoln, was conceived and engineered. Hear from the legendary Bob Gurr who worked alongside other Imagineers to help Mr. Lincoln talk and stand.

    Concert: String Circle Quartet
    4:00 pm, Special Exhibition Hall, 122 Riley Avenue
    This musical adventure will pair the last string quartet of Mozart's with the first of Benjamin Britten's; these are both pieces of sparkling wit, great beauty, and off beat character. Jonathan Dimmock will join the quartet on piano in a quintet arrangement written by Mozart for glass armonica.

    Film of the Month
    Darby O'Gill and the Little People (1959)
    1:00 pm and 4:00 pm (Except for Tuesdays, and March 13, March 20, and March 28), Theater tickets available online
    Sprinkle a bit of luck in your day with the magical adventures of Darby O'Gill and the Little People. Follow Darby as he tries to out trick the King of the Leprechauns and reach that pot of gold. Does he succeed? You will have to come to one of our screenings to find out.

    Innovations: Ub Iwerks and The Nodal Point Camera
    3:00 pm, Theater tickets available online
    The making of Darby O’Gill and the Little People presented particular challenges. Walt wanted the audience to believe that Darby was talking and singing with the King of the Leprechauns but the scale had to be perfect. To tackle this technical problem he turned to Ub Iwerks. Join Don Iwerks, former Disney executive, founder of Iwerks Entertainment, and son of Ub, as he talks about Ub’s creation, the Nodal Point Camera.

    Women’s History Month: Harriet Burns, Disney’s First Female Imagineer
    3:00 pm, Theater tickets available online
    Harriet Burns became the first woman to work at WED Enterprises giving her special touch to Sleeping Beauty’s Castle, the Haunted Mansion, and designing the birds for the Enchanted Tiki Room. Her daughter, Pam Burns-Clair, and Don Peri, author of "Working with Walt: Interviews with Disney Artists" will introduce you to a woman that worked beside legends and become one herself.
