Steven Segal as Walt. The movie could be about how he had to fight a bunch of thugs for the rights to make Mary Poppins. They could call the movie Marked for Poppins.
"You can cut me off from the civilized world. You can incarcerate me with two moronic cellmates. You can torture me with your thrice daily swill, but you cannot break the spirit of a Winchester. My voice shall be heard from this wilderness and I shall be delivered from this fetid and festering sewer."

Actually i think John Stmaos is the best suggestion so far!
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

That's a very interesting/different idea. I don't know that I can see Tom Hanks, as wonderfully gifted as he is, pulling off a convincing Walt. I personally think that a story about his life, the making of Snow White, or the story of his first several movies would be more interesting than just the tales behind the making of Mary Poppins.

If they did go through with a movie, I would recommend they go with a fresh face so that they can better match the facial features and mannerisms of Walt.

Ya know, Dominc Cooper actually wouldn't be that bad of a choice. He has an English accent but he can hide it fairly well. I'm not sure his mannerisms would work but he does have the look of a young Walt. John Slattery wouldn't be the best choice, even though I have an old man crush on him.

Re: Tom Hanks rumored to play Walt Disney in movie about the making of Mary Poppins

We all do realize that no one has the voice or mannerisms of anyone else, right? One can change both to match the character. It's called acting. You can't take what someone is like in real life and say "Well, he doesn't talk or walk like Walt so he'd be terrible." Of course, he doesn't! He's not Walt! No one is! Acting is assuming those characteristics and playing a roll in a story.

Let me ask all of you THIS question: Would you rather have an actor who is amazing at his craft but, physically, not quite looking like Walt or would you rather have an actor who looks like a mirror image of Walt, but can't act his way out of a paper bag. There's more to story and roll than the look. There's the skill and ability of the actor to carry the emotion and sensibilities of the part. I don't think Leonardo Dicaprio looked anything like Howard Hughes. But I thought he was PHENOMENAL in The Aviator. I know Tom Hanks didn't look anything like Jim Lovell but was fantastic in Apollo 13.

I'd rather the filmmakers went along the route of someone who gets alot of the mannerisms and substance of Walt but, most importantly, is an amazing actor than worrying about getting the look EXACTLY right to please a bunch of Disney geeks but the acting is horrible.
"In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations, the new needs friends." - Anton Ego

I remember years ago telling someone that if they ever did a film on Walt, Tom Hanks would be the guy to do it. I really hope this goes through! Wonderful.

I can't get his voice out of my head as I read this. He might pull off the Walt LOOK however his voice would certainly take me out of the movie.

I always thought Robert Downey Jr. would be a great younger Walt Disney.

I agree. Jean Dujardin looked exactly like a young Walt Disney circa the 1930s and 40s. Unless they aged him a bit (which could be done), he wouldn't much suit a Walt Disney of the 60s. There's also the issue of his accent.

Re: Tom Hanks rumored to play Walt Disney in movie about the making of Mary Poppins

First off I have a hard time thinking that this will actually ever happen...I am one of the biggest Poppins ever and am totally shocked by this! That said, if this were to happen I think they would need to use an unknown actor to play Walt. To me Tom Hanks is great but is in no way shape or form Walt Disney. As I see it, any one they put in the part would be under a microscope and would never ad up but maybe if they could get a really good unknown it would be less distracting. The only good news I see is that we have the Sherman Brothers to tell it as it really was, (of course you could just watch The Boys and get the same story first hand). Its strange for me because on one hand I guess I should be happy that they would make such a movie but I think the feeling that they could so screw it all up is overshadowing that. Seems like a hot mess and what a shame it would be to do this in a way that would be beneath the standards of the most delightful movie ever made.
