I believe that's a deleted scene from Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones.

Re: John Carter Positioned To Be Biggest Flop Of All Time?

It's incredible that me, having not read any of the novels and never really knowing about this property until a year or two ago, is following news about this film like it's the next Star Wars or something. I can't stop reading about it and telling people about it and criticizing the marketing.

Here, the LA Times talks about the fan-made trailer. (hurry and read it before they charge ya!)
    John Carter - Company Town - latimes.com

And quite amazing the type of trailers that the Australian audience is getting:

Re: John Carter Positioned To Be Biggest Flop Of All Time?

This conversation JUST took place between me and a girl i know.

Girl: Hey, I'm in your neck of the woods tonight, what are you doing?

Me: I'm going to see John Carter!

    Girl: (sarcastically) Oh HOW FUUUUUUUN.

Me: (ignoring the sarcasm) It will be! And the director will be there too for a Q&A!

    Girl: Ugh... gross.

Me: Don't say that... he directed Finding Nemo!

    Girl: (not sarcastic) OH CUUUUUTE!

Me: Now you wanna see the movie?

Girl: Yah maybe now that I know he's directing. The commercials just look so stupid.

Sooo, Disney, I'm guessing that this girl is not a unique case but the damage by your marketing has been done. You have 2 weeks to fix it.

On a related note, the ad that ran during the Oscars showing the critical praise is a good step.

It's in IMAX 3-D! There's a IMAX AMC theater a few miles down the street from my house. I will definitesly see it there. I also saw AVATAR and STAR TREK there.

I hope they've realized that Carter can leap over tall buildings at a single bound, but he can't bend steel in his bare hands or change the course of mighty rivers. He leaps great distances because of Mars' low gravity, but he has only his normal Earthly strength.

Ad copy they should have used:

    Before Superman.
    Before STAR WARS.
    Before Captain America.
    Before Conan the Barbarian
    Before Tarzan, there was....

    JOHN CARTER OF MARS!
Everyone is entitled to an informed opinion.

There should be a sticky thread called "This Day in Disney History." The company has a long history and this would be a good way to acknowledge it. Walt was born 112 years ago; that's quite a chunk of American history and culture.

Forbes is back, on the other side this time:

Five Reasons You Should Be Excited About Disney's 'John Carter'

Ignore the critics. John Carter looks like an awesome space-and-sorcery adventure.

It may look like cheesy space-and-sorcery – a high-tech reimagining of Star Wars replete with the latest CGI – but John Carter has plenty to be excited about.I have no idea if it’s going to be a great film, but I’m definitely looking forward to its release this coming March.

Here’s a few reasons why I think you should ignore the critics and go see Disney’s big-budget science fiction flick on March 9th.

    1. John Carter was written and directed by Andrew Stanton.

What I don't like about that article is that it starts with "Ignore the critics." I think most critics would be in favor of this film!

I think he's referring to critics of the film's marketing thus far.

Right. The one critic he mentions who has not seen the movie right? I guess it's not the "real" critics.

HO boy.... Disney's positioning themselves into another bad trailer. I advise you guys to NOT watch this if you can help it. It's an absolute mess.

I have no interest in this film. At some point, perhaps I'll put it on my Netflix queue at the bottom and let it work its way up. I saw the trailer once or twice, and now I fast forward through it when I see it come up again. I will change my mind if everyone I know sees it and says it is a must see. Right now, I'd say the likelihood of me catching this one while it's still in the theaters is about 1-2%.

I've seen the movie and it is impressive. It is much too good of a film to flop, if nothing else word of mouth should carry it some range of success. Honestly I can not describe how greatly I enjoyed this movie, I am telling eveyone I know they should see it!

I'm not the only one look at twitter the feedback is abundantly positive from those who've had the privilege to see it!!

100% agree. I've been posting something John Carter everyday on my twitter/facebook to a point that my friends ask me how much Disney is paying me. My reasoning is that Disney has a history of not making sequels to my favorite films.

    -Who Framed Roger Rabbit
    -The Rocketeer
    -Dick Tracy
    -Tron: Legacy

and now... John Carter is at stake.

Prince of Persia and The Sorcerer's Apprentice also could use sequels, but look where marketing got those.
