‘Tomorrowland': Disney Expects to Suffer $140 Million Loss

Don't expect anything to change in the parks for this movie.

Very Sad. I had high expectations for it and didn't even end up seeing it because the micechat user reviews seemed to all agree that it wasn't that good and was preachy. Disney seems to have a problem with making successful live action movies within the past 5-10years. So many have flopped. Star Wars should make up for all of them though.

I was interested in the concept, but I can't bring myself to pay money for a George Clooney movie. That guy is a bonehead, and I won't give him my money. So I didn't see Tomorrowland.

Doesn't sound like I missed much.

Doesn't help any fight for a new TL but can also be used to fuel a Marvel or Star Wars TL redo.

If I were a gambler I wouldn't put all my money on Star Wars... I would say it is far from a sure thing... I expect it to get a huge opening... but if it blows chunks as much as the last Star Wars movie I doubt it could easily end up being a disappointment for Disney.

I think everyone kind of expected this movie to struggle in the box office and turn out to be just one of 2015's little novelty releases, but who expected this? $140 million down the tubes? Yikes. What a blow to Brad Bird's career.

Everyone keep this in mind when you ask for Disney to build new attractions based on unfounded IPs. This creative team does not have a great track record in the last few years. I could care less if they have a flop in the theaters but I do not want a flop in the parks that takes up valuable space.

The last movies blew chunks and still made a ton of money.

It isn't a bad film... it just isn't as GREAT as the people behind it would suggest. And Brad Bird's previous work are all better than this. So it is a disappointment, regardless of how great some of the elements were. Third act just wasn't great enough to save it.

JJ can't possibly screw Force Awakens up as bad as Lucas did with the prequels.

Automatic billion dollar take on the first release.

I agree. He made sure to not make the same mistakes as lucas did on the prequels. Star Wars will be disneys most successful live action movie in a long time. No doubt in my mind. So expect Star Wars to take over frozens fame and expect large Star Wars plans for the resort. And be prepared for TL to go to yesterland.

I'll take that bet any day of the week! Perhaps the prequels weren't up to par with the originals, but they still have grossed these numbers:

    Episode 1: 1 billion
    Episode 2: 650 million
    Episode 3: 850 million

The new one will hit over a billion no problem. Why? Because it's Star Wars and Abrams is going back to the roots of adventure storytelling and practical effects.

Tomorrowland fell to #4 in week 2 and #7 in week 3. The Phantom Menace (said to be the worst of the prequels) stayed #1 for 4 weeks and didn't fall to #7 until week 9.

I still don't completely blame Brad Bird, and I doubt you'll see Disney work with Lindelof again. They took a risk and it didn't pay off.
