G.I. JOE - The Rise of Cobra

I actually really enjoyed it. It was mindless action and it was just long enough. Good action, good effects, mediocre acting ... but that was okay. Set up Cobra quite nicely I thought.

The animated series were after my kid years and I played with Mego super-hero dolls instead of army men. Still, I liked this movie too. It was the 80's-esque cheesy music that told me, "This is just live action version of the cartoon, so deal with it." And I did.

Twilight - My friends came over, we fried some lumpia and sat down to watch this together to get caught up on the story. I'll probably wait for New Moon to come out on video, but my friend and her daughter (who's 11 and fussed about having to watch this movie, but ended up thinking it was better than she originally thought) may see it in theatres soon.

Alright someone else likes G.I. JOE- The Rise of the Cobra besides me. I was a big fan of the 80ís cartoon show. Anyways G.I. JOE was better than Transformers 2.

They're both terrible, but I'd rather watch Transformers 2.

Here's how I break it down:

    Transformers 2:
    -complete mess of a story
    -pompous directing
    -inexcusable sexual innuendo
    -Car Car Binks
-Transforming robots done by ILM (this is a plus)

    G.I.Joe: Rise of Cobra
-More straight foward story, mauled by horrible direction, editing, poorly done flashbacks
-horrible special effects (see polar bear)
-ridiculously bad acting, even from Dennis Quaid.
    -Stupid, stupid stupid.
-General Hawk says early on "When all else fails, we don't." That's a lie because they constantly fail throughout the rest of the film.
-The two new recruits are given the most expensive hardware. And fail.
-Joe security detect something in the sand dunes, but don't detect Cobra drills penetrating the fortress and shooting everything up.
-General Hawk keeps the warheads in his personal office while listening to his iPod. Very secure.
    -Snake-Eyes has a mouth.
-Cobra Commander's submarine has a big COBRA painted on the side... before he assumes control of the organization and prior to naming it Cobra.

So while Transformers 2 is a mess, the director knows its a mess and doesn't give a crap. G.I.Joe is a mess.. but they don't even know it.

Ah well, glad you enjoyed it. It pains me to even think about it.

The thing is, I went in with such low expectations, I mean REALLY low that I had no choice but to enjoy it for what it was.

Coheteboy, you nailed my feelings on Transformers 2. The sexual innuendos totally destroyed it for me. I'm all for innuendo, but it should at least have a reason. This was just pointless rubbish.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter

PRECIOUS - A really well made film with incredible performances. I think this is one to watch come Oscar season. It might not be Best Picture but I think it has a lot of heart... something that is usually lacking from other nominees.

It was on late last night, I had nothing else to watch, hadn't seen it in awhile. It's decent at best. Honestly, I would be interested to see what a more capable director could do with the story, as it is very interesting.
