The King's Speech -- not so disturbing, but still very good. Three (maybe more) Potter actors sighted. As someone who still gets butterflies before speaking publicly -- and I was a teacher for three years -- I empathize with the King.

I'm really interested in seeing this. This film came up amongst some actor friends and we learned one of our friends used to have a stuttering problem himself. He's a really charismatic, talented actor, so it was a surprise to hear him admit that. So he definitely wants to see this film. We'd been talking about Shakespeare in Love originally, and he pointed out that there's a character in that film too with a stuttering problem (played by the man who played Arthur Weasley in the Potter films). He saw it as a kid and it really inspired him when he saw the actor overcome it.

Rented A Bug's Life. Defiantly in my top 3 Pixar films. I forgot how heroic Flik is and Hopper being one of the coolest villains out there. BTW Hopper's demise still rattles me... ; )

Paranormal Activity 2

I thought it was just as good as the first. Really could have been called Paranormal Activity 1.5 as it really does tie in the first movie pretty well. Most of this movie takes place just before the events in the first movie, and you kind of see why those things happened.

I Love You Man

This was my second time viewing it last night and I got to confess this one of the coolest movies I have seen in the past few years (along with Kick-*** and RED). Funny and still awesome the second time and it gets better with every viewing. And Rush's cameo FTW!!

WATCHMEN director's cut -- I never fully cared for this film when I saw it in the theater because it was TOO FAITHFUL to the graphic novel and at the same time, changed the ending to suit its own needs. I think films shouldn't be TOO faithful because it's almost a waste to watch the exact same thing you just read (nearly). Film adaptions should give you the feel of the book in a different way. But maybe that's a tribute to the graphic novel being so good.

That said, the Director's Cut is the way to go. It's still way long (3 hours) and could be edited down by a lot (especially the mini-porn inside the owl ship) but visually, still very impressive.

"I am Number Four." I got the giggles about 10 minutes in because I kept thinking "Where do I know the bad guy's voice from...?!" And then I realized Kevin Durand played Joshua, the dog boy, in "Dark Angel." He used the same voice so the bad guy wasn't really "scary." Everytime he talked I giggled. I read the book. It was better. The casting... If Shartlo Copley was cast as Henri (like he was originally) I think it would've given a different vibe. Timothy Olymphant had a nice tushy throughout though... One thing in the book that I thought was interesting was Henri had an accent and I missed that in this (although Olymphant was pretty bad @ssed throughout.). Sorry for the ramble been up for like 24hrs.

Strange Brew. Another guilty pleasure of mine. Maybe only for Bob and Doug fans.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. One of my favorite guilty pleasures. You don't watch this one for the story.

Methinks we like it for the same couple of reasons.

Superman: Doomsday - I watched this once before when it was first released on DVD. Best Buy had the Blu-ray for a killer deal on Sunday, so I finally broke down to pick it up. On the bad side, it's still not as enjoyable in high def as it was in standard def, altho' I was still blown away by Anne Heche's performance in her sadder moments as Lois Lane. On the plus side, my DCU Blu-ray Movie collection is now complete. Next buy: All-Star Superman later today!

The Social Network-I loved this movie. It's just amazing how greedy people are in this world. CBS Sunday morning show did a segment on Jesse Eisenberg. He's so adorable. He's got a great movie future ahead of him.

All-Star Superman - Color me surprised! I'd re-read the original graphic novel last week, a book I wasn't entirely a fan of either time I read it. So I wasn't "super" looking forward to seeing this flick. But as a life-long DC fan, it needed to be bought. What a very well-done animated movie this was! I especially liked the animation, which was significantly better imo in terms of direction and fluidity of motion than most of the earlier DCU movie series. And the story flowed quite well considering the episodic nature of the GN's tale. If I were to recommend one of these direct-to-video DCU flicks, I'd now point to Batman: Under the Red Hood for best action and All-Star Superman for best overall story and presentation.

The Incredible Hulk. Just saw this for the first time. As one of the few people who liked Ang Lee's version, I think the new Hulk improved on some things, whereas it was weaker elsewhere. In Ang Lee's, I really like how they made Hulk representative of repression, rage, and dad issues. One of my favorite lines of any movie is when Eric Bana says "when I lose control, I like it." I think Ed Norton's version really missed out on this level. The newer version's love story was a bit more effective in the first hour, although later there were one too many "beauty and beast" type moments stolen from Ang Lee. When Liv Tyler's Betty faces Ed Norton's Hulk, it is less significant because Hulk isn't portrayed as being much of Banner's subconscious as it is more of an induced drug trip. On the other hand, the fugitive angle from the TV show was nice (as well as the inclusion of the TV theme). And they definitely set out to do what they said they would which was to give us a lot more spectacular action and fighting. It helped that the villain wasn't just the government, but a truly warped baddie. Ang Lee tried too hard to make the final battle a big symbolic visual metaphor of something, and it ended up being more confusing than exciting. Anyway, I guess all that to say I liked The Incredible Hulk about the same as Hulk, just for different reasons. And now I'm ready for Thor and Captain America.
