FAT, SICK, AND NEARLY DEAD -- Documentary by Australian Joe Cross who was "morbidly obese" and wanted to do something about it. So he goes on a 60 day veggie/fruit juice fast while going cross country United States. He tracks his progress and his findings along the way. Very inspiring and fascinating look at health. Definitely an eye-opener and makes me willing to change my diet for sure.

You can rent this on netflix.

Batman: Year One - The latest direct-to-video title from Warner Bros Animation, I enjoyed this a lot. Imo, it's The Best Batman Movie Most People Will Never Watch.

PUSS N BOOTS -- Dreamworks delivers another solid, fun, entertaining movie with the more interesting character of the Shrek franchise, all while staying in the fairy tale realm (humpty dumpty, jack and the beanstalk). My top two remain Kung Fu Panda and How To Train Your Dragon but this easily fits into the top 3. I recommend it.

I took a break last week from my Halloween movie marathon and got to the 2nd-run theater and saw:
Horrible Bosses - It was hilarious! I want a boss like Jennifer Aniston!

    X:Men - First Class

I totally loved it. I was very apprehensive but I think it was the best of the X-Men movies, right there with the first one.

There were a couple of departures that really don't make sense (when you look at the first X-Men movie), but they are pretty minor in the whole grand scheme of things (Magneto's helmet for example).

    Totally recommended.

JACKA$$ 3.5 -- This came in from Netflix and I was kinda surprised because I have yet to see JA 3! 3.5 is essentially stuff that didn't make the actual movie and released in its own dvd. I was really entertained... and completely grossed out. It is what you expect, all in good fun.

KINGPIN -- Yup, I brought out this old Farrelly Bros. movie out of my DVD shelf to revisit. Always fun to see Bill Murray playing the creepy, pervy guy. And whoa... Blues Traveler is in this... I completely forgot about them and their crazy harmonica skills.

If you liked this, you got to visit the National Bowling Stadium in Reno. The only problem was, when I walked in there last time, there wasn't a guy with a pizza standing around...

    On Blu-ray:

Winnie the Pooh - It's simple, it's cute, and it has plenty of charm. I really enjoyed it. Bugs me that I ddin't see it in the theater. Love how the artists matched the backgrounds to the original, and from other disney animated movies of that time period. Loved the little nod to Indiana Jones where Piglet is swapping the pine cone for the tea pot ala idol and the sandbag. The short Ballad of Nessie was awesome too - I hope they make more like this.

The Goonies - It's Oct 26 - Goonies Day! A few years back over at TheGoonies.org board, my fellow goonies came to the conclusion that the kids set out on their adventure on October 26 in the movie, so we proclaimed Oct 26 Goonies Day. What do we do today? Watch The Goones of course. A childhood favourite, it is still great all these years later. I just picked it up on Blu-Ray today as it dropped down to $10. This one is also part of my annual Halloween movie marathon.

OSMOSIS JONES -- Another Farrelly Bros movie! I really like this one and watching it again, it's amazing how much voice talent was in this! Chris Rock, David Hyde-Pierce, Laurence Fishburne, William Shatner, Ron Howard. And Bill Murray, Chris Elliot, and Molly Shannon head up the live action side, which is just as entertaining. A lot of fun.

Last night on BBC America, I watched Dune. Not the made for TV movie/miniseries. The original 1984 version directed by David Lynch. I hadn't seen it in maybe 25 years and wow... what a train wreck. It was just really weird and complicated, but that's typical David Lynch fare for you. I think the only reason I watched it is because Sting was in it.

Tonight, I think I'm going to go see The Rocky Horror Picture Show. There's a local theatre that shows it every Saturday with a live shadow cast and it's only $5 admission and $1 prop bags. Nothing beats seeing this one live, with the audience participation.

It's not a remake. It'a prequel to the original.

Saw Paranormal Activity 3 (not my choice).

Yawn. So called "scary movies" just don't scare me anymore.

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm - My PS3's blu-ray drive still needs to be replaced. Hope to take care of that within the week. Meantime, I popped this DVD in from my library. First off, it's funny watching a 1990's DVD blown up on a large flatscreen and seeing all the dust and lint stuff visibly on the opening WB Animation intro. Second, really good movie. I used to let the animation distract me, but for it is, it's a really good story.
