Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan

MUCH better than the first movie, but still kind of boring. Had more of a story than the first movie though, so that's a good thing.

THE ADVENTURES OF ICHABOD AND MR. TOAD - just watching it again for good measure because I really don't remember the Toad part of the story too well. I fell asleep towards the end of Sleepy Hollow because I ate too many tacos. I'll have to watch that segment again later.

Finished-up watching the Lord of the Rings Trilogy with Return of the King tonight. Wonder when The Hobbit Part 1 will finally hit theaters.

Gonna start watching some Christmas movies and cartoons now.

The wife and I caught up on several movies last week over the long weekend. Here's my breakdown

Gran Torino: Cant believe I hadnt seen this movie yet. Great film!

Coraline: Weird, quirky, but fun. I liked it. Wife thought it was too creepy to be a family film

The Proposal: Predictable ending, but still a funny film. Betty White rocks!!

GI Joe: Good for what it was.

Push: Way too slow for a movie about people with superpowers

Orphan: Wow, what a twist!! Loved it

Ice Age 3: Had its moments, but overall I thought its the weakest of the 3 films.

    Bedtime Stories: OK

Angels & Demons: Liked it better than "The DaVinci Code". Wasnt too bothered by the changes made from the book. (In a twist though, I liked "The DaVinci Code" book better than the "Angels & Demons" book..oh well)

Aladdin: Hadnt watched it for years and we were bored so decided to pop it in. Loved it then, love it now!

BURN AFTER READING - Like all coen bros movies, I love the acting and performances, but always something about the story that makes me want to get the F out of there. And it's not a story problem... it's more like "ooohhhhh, i didn't want that to happen nooooo"

I was pretty surprised about this film, I personally didnt think it was awesome, but lots of my guy friends loved it! I had no idea what it was about, but it certainly was a PACKED theater for the showing I went to.

    The Blind Side

It was really good, really well done and really, an amazing true story. I'm sure they left some things out, but it was really good. If you like sports movies, feel-good movies or feel-good sports movies, this is one of the better ones in recent years.

I also want to mention, the original movie we were going to see was A Christmas Carol. The ONLY theatre it was playing in was the IMAX and I REFUSE to pay $60 for my family of 4 to see a movie. We all wanted to see it, but now that it's been out awhile it's only in 3D and/or IMAX which means those of us who prefer to see the movie in a more traditional setting are left out.

    Sad.

The Day the Earth Stood Still - The original from 1951. Never saw it before. Wow, what a scary movie! More tension than I expected. Really well crafted, unfolding very slowly, dramatically, and definitely getting you to empathize with Klatuu's POV, unlike the remake which was good but clearly not better. In the making-of feature I watched afterwards, Spencer Tracy wanted to play Klatuu, but the filmmakers argued he'd pull audiences out of the story. I think seeing Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly in the remake did that for me. But I still wanna re-watch the remake again, after seeing the original.

For All Mankind - A documentary about the Apollo moon missions featuring original NASA footage. It starts with President Kennedy's speech motivating us to go to the moon to then the story of our "first" mission there. But having seen the Discovery Channel documentary When We Left Earth which also contained original mission footage too, I recognized that the rest of the film is built using footage from all of the missions. Different astronauts are seen throughout, tho' they obviously use the Armstrong footage for the actual first steps on the moon. They even inserted a brief moment of drama to the voyage, using Apollo XIII's oxygen leak episode where you clearly recognize Lovell creating the makeshift hose to repair the module. So it's not really the true story of the first mission to set foot on the moon as it claims at the outset of the story, but rather an opportunity to present as much of the original footage as possible. And in that case, it's a visual treat, especially if you own a Blu-ray player. The launch from Cape Canaveral features footage I'd never seen before, basically an extended version of the launch we've all seen before, but from several different and at times up close angles!

THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX -- I liked it, but didn't love it as much as I had hoped. It's very well done but can be a bit dry and perhaps a hair too slow.
