Re: The "What Movie Did You Just See?" thread RELOADED

Watched a whole bunch, most on Blu-Ray:

Puss in Boots - Missed it at the theater, but picked up the Blu-Ray. Really liked it. The Three Diablos short was great.

Hanna - great action flick. I like the Chemical Brothers soundtrack to this one.

Ghost Rider (on Blu) - I like this one. Not great but I like it.
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (theater) - It was Ok. I liked the first one better because it had a better cast; Peter Fonda as the devil (with a nod to Easy Rider), and Sam Elliot. The sequel was lacking these two. I didn't like how they actually treated the Ghost Rider in this one, and actually, I think he got less screen time than in the first (talking about the Rider in his flamed-up skull mode, not Johnny Blaze). Another flaw over the first one; hard to distinguish what he is actually saying when he's flamed-up. Only cost me $3 so I'm not complaining too much.

    All on Blu:
Mission: Impossible - like this one more with each subsequent viewing. I wasn't too thrilled with Jim Phelps being a bad guy at first, but my opinion has changed about it. Love the whodunnit plot of this one.
Mission: Impossible 2 - My least favourite of the 4 MI movies. This one feels too much like a James Bond flick. I love 007, but they should distance the MI movies away from that franchise. Too many slo-mo glamour shots of Thandie Newton, Tommy, and pigeons flying thru flames. Too straightforward of a story.
Mission: Impossible 3 - Love this one. Love it as much as Ghost Protocol. Can't wait to pick-up Ghost Protocol on Blu next month.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail - Consult the Book of Armaments! Classic flick. Haven't seen it in its entirety in a long time. Glad I picked it up on Blu.

    At the theater:
John Carter IMAX 3D - Fun movie. Not the greatest, but fun. The visuals were great, lots of eye candy, but the script could've used some polishing.

THE IRON GIANT -- Cast & Crew Reunion Screening in Los Angeles. 35 mm print. Dirt, scratches and all. Still as great as I remember. Still my favorite movie.

Watched a few, all on Blu-Ray...
2012 - What can I say...great effects but... where's the nearest ark located?

Hugo - Fantastic movie. One of the best of 2011. Very unique. Can't wait to watch it again.

The Adventures of Tintin - Another new favourite. Lots of fun. I picked up on lots of jokes I didn't catch the first time I saw it in the theater. Love Captain Haddock. This made-up for what Spielberg did with Indy 4, or was that George's fault?

John Carter - I was really hoping it would be super-pulpy, just like the books. Even though it wasn't, I still enjoyed it. The art design was really nice, but stayed true to the other sources that have described them in the past. (I didn't like the girl who played the Princess tho . . . )

Hellraiser - (Original) New favorite. Love it. Love the ideas. Love the Cenobites and the Lament Configuration. Loved the twists. Loved the DPing. Great film, Great book etc.

She was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine with Taylor Kitsch. She played Logan's girlfriend.

It's funny because most critics, even when dismissing the film, unanimously praise the "Princess of Mars".

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked. My youngest daughter really wanted to see this. A couple cute moments, but really pretty awful. I have no objection to talented people like Jason Lee and David Cross being in a movie like this, you just think they could at least try a little harder. At least I only paid a dollar for each of us.

    Barbie: A Perfect Christmas
. As long as I'm making confessions, I may as well mention I saw this straight-to-DVD a while back. My wife points out there are some positive life lessons here (I agree), but I have to say the entertainment value is zero.

    Barbie: Princess Charm School
. There are no good life lessons for my daughters here, the setting is a school that teaches you you must be a princess for people to really like you and there's a recycled plot featuring some b....y bullies. Sadly, against my better judgment, I actually kinda enjoyed it and thought the villain sidekick was pretty funny.
Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy.

Daydream Believer: The Monkee's Story First saw this on MTV and then bought the DVD. With the death of Davy Jones and the resurgence of interest in the Monkees I decided to watch it again. The look-alike cast was incredible lots and lots of little details in the acting and sets that brought back so many memories. I highly recommend it to any Monkee fan.

    On DVD:
Darby O'Gill and The Little People - Hmm, I wonder why Iwatched this one yesterday... Went good with a green beer . Since this one was Sean Connery's first movie, should get a Blu-Ray release.

OUR IDIOT BROTHER -- Paul Rudd stars in a ensemble cast with Elizabeth Banks, Emily Mortimer, Zooey Deschanel playing his three Type-A sisters and he's... their idiot brother. Also star Rashida Jones, Adam Scott, Steve Coogan and a lot of other funny people. I won't say anything more. I enjoyed it. It's not FUNNY funny. It's entertaining and enjoyable.
