Eat Pray Love - I LOVED this. It was sort of long but I enjoyed it and who doesn't love yummy Javier Bardem. I also really want to visit Bali now.

    The Thing (2011 Prequel)

I thought it was pretty good, a nice companion to the original. Certainly worth the rental.

Saw The Avengers in 3D. Loved it. Can't think of anything to say that hasn't been said already. Loved the Hulk-Loki scene: Hilarious! Confused a bit by the tesseract cube, so I rented Captain America to catch up. (And let me give a shout-out to Redbox. Love being able to rent a Blu-ray disc for only $1.69!) Cap was a great film, too. I think Jack Kirby would have been pleased. In the shot that established the World's Fair, I think I saw The Human Torch in a glass chamber at the bottom of the picture.

There should be a sticky thread called "This Day in Disney History." The company has a long history and this would be a good way to acknowledge it. Walt was born 112 years ago; that's quite a chunk of American history and culture.

    Both on Blu-Ray...
Star Trek First Contact - Best of the TNG movies. Cool to watch after meeting the cast a few weeks ago.

    And continuing my Prometheus marathon...
Aliens - Probably the best in the series. And the thing I love the most... all practical effects. No CGI!

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER -- My 2nd time viewing and it's much better this time than the first. Good movie. I would edit it differently though so that we're NOT seeing what's buried under ice in the very beginning. Way to spoil the movie before it even starts, filmmakers! I also wouldn't end the movie on a depressing punchline. Maybe something else and then the fun march of the end credits.

Continuing my Prometheus marathon, on Blu-Ray watched...
Alien 3 - or is that Alien cubed? I think this is the weakest of the series just because the first half drags on a bit until the action picks up. Still a good flick though. That reminds me. Got to put my autographed Lance Henriksen photo in a frame, that I got a few weeks ago here at the Comic Expo. I really enjoyed chatting with Lance, very nice guy. If he shows up here next year, would really like to get his book. I just didn't pick it up this time around as I was on a budget.

PEARL JAM TWENTY -- A Documentary about the rock band and their last 20 years. This band really helped redefine who I was growing up so it was interesting to see how they got their start. A lot of the latter bits kinda became boring though but I was interested in seeing all the Ticketmaster court hearings. See it if you're a huge fan of the band. Otherwise, it might be pretty boring.

Wow, am I glad to hear that. I started watching this on Blu at least six or seven months ago. Watched a bit, got bored or annoyed by the stupidity and turned it off. Later watched some more and still couldn't get through it. The disc has been lying on my entertainment center waiting to be finished all this time. To know it might pick up gives me hope.

    Unless you're lying.

Just finished Being Elmo. I despise Elmo. He annoys me to no end, but it's a fantastic documentary and it's streaming on Netflix. It's kind of a history of the Muppets and Sesame Street, but from the perspective of an outsider super fan, until he finally lands a gig as a Muppeteer. I highly recommend.

It's in my Netflix queue, I'll have to get around to watching it one of these days.

    Underworld: Awakening

Certainly not as good as Underworld 1 and 2. And probably not even good as Underworld 3. Just seemed like it was a set-up for the next Underworld. I did enjoy it, it was worth the rental but I doubt I'll be adding it to my collection (even though I would like to have the entire set).

    Inglorious Basterds

I wanted to watch a war movie for Memorial Day. Thought about Saving Private Ryan, The Longest Day, The Patriot and a whole bunch of other ones. Not sure why I decided to go with this instead (despite it's complete awesomeness) but I'm never disappointed in this movie. Still pissed it didn't win Best Picture the year it came out (even though The Hurt Locker was good, it wasn't THIS good).

MEN IN BLACK 3 -- Decent. Entertaining yet boring. You can tell that they were filming this before a script was even finished as the threat of saving the world that was very present in the first MiB is hardly felt in this one. Yes, it's better than 2 but that wasn't very hard to do. But best in the series? Far from it. And it also bothered me that the villain resembled Macho Man Randy Savage.

Battleship - Joined my friends in Catalina over Memorial Day weekend and their tradition is to watch whatever movie's playing in the Casino Theatre. To my dismay, it was this film. But you know, once you get past the overkill that is the first half hour or so of beating the audience over their heads that Taylor Kitsch's character is as flawed and annoying and stupid as Naval officers (apparently) come, and you forget about trying to make sense of the rest of it, the last hour-hour and a half make up a decent movie worth seeing especially on Memorial Day weekend. I even didn't mind the Transformer-ish gadgetry of the aliens. It's very much like "Independence Day," cheesy but not as good. My friends hated the acting in this, I just didn't care. But some people in the theatre even applauded at the end when the good ol' Navy won.

Oh, and Brooklyn Decker is unbelievably hot!

^I've had the pleasure of seeing Brooklyn Decker two different times in person. And you're right.

I kinda want to see this movie still just to see what they did. I mean.. it can't possibly be as bad as Jack and Jill.

One for the Money. I'm not saying I enjoyed this nor would I recommend it, but it's not nearly as bad as a 2% rottentomatoes score would lead you to believe. Mechanically it's put together alright. None of the performances were terrible. It just never seemed to gel very well. It was never quite that funny or exciting, and while Katherine Heigl injects her own personality into the character the character itself is written rather flat, not always sure why she's doing what she's doing. It's all too bad, I think this had some potential.

The Rescuers. We had movie night with the kids and this was the one they chose. I think this is the better made film of the two Rescuers movies, but I've always preferred the sequel.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Saw this for the first time and I really liked it a lot. The performances were good, really well told story that just draws you in. Despite having a role that didn't let her do much, Freida Pinto is so incredibly beautiful, I think I'm finally going to have to watch Slumdog Millionaire. Anyway, one of the better films from last summer and I'm looking forward to the sequel.

Tucker and Dale vs. Evil. This is one of the most surprisingly funny things I've ever seen. At some points I was laughing so hard at the sheer outrageousness I was afraid I'd wake up the kids. Really knocks the horror genre on it's side. It's really inspired writing, both twisted and at the same time very sweet with a lot of heart. The two leads and the 30 Rock girl give really endearing performances. I think I may have to buy this one. I really hope this film finds more of an audience. Truly underappreciated.
Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy.

SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMEN -- BO-RING. Man. Did the director read "HOW TO MAKE A BORING MOVIE" and follow each step to the letter? Good production values make not an entertaining film. Charlize Theron could only do so much. This movie reminded me so much of SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS, WILLOW and TANGLED. All much better films than this.
