Been busy again this year with a Halloween movie marathon. Since the last week in september I watched:

    2. The Game
    3. Predator
    4. Predator 2
    5. Predators
    6. Alien vs. Predator
    7. Alien vs. Predator Requiem
    8. Dark Shadows
    9. ParaNorman
    10. Cabin in the Woods
    11. The Phantom of the Opera (Joel Schumacher/Andrew Lloyd Webber)
    12. The Devil's Advocate
    13. The Haunted Mansion
    14. The Others
    15. The Raven
    16. 28 Days Later
    17. 28 Weeks Later
    18. E.T. The Extra Terrestrial
    19. The Woman in Black
    20. Little Shop of Horrors
    21. The Frighteners
    22. 1408

I've kinda got two rules this year: either watch movies just on Blu-Ray, or movies that I haven't seen yet. (with a few exceptions - movies that traditionally I watch every year like Monster Squad and Goonies)

    CLOUD ATLAS

I gotta hand it to them. This is one really ambitious movie with so many different storylines, time periods, characters.... all chopped up Pulp Fiction style and you'll have to make sense of it all by the end.... and... surprisingly, you do.

This isn't a perfect film but it really is a work of art and a film that makes you think about life, love, death, friendship, reincarnation, afterlife, everything. And that to me makes it worth while.

This isn't for everyone. It has moments of violence, nudity, sex, language... so definitely don't take the kids to this. And since it's nearly 3 hours, don't take a soda into it neither.

Re: The "What Movie Did You Just See?" thread RELOADED

Watched a few more Bonds and a flick a friend lent me.

Thunderball - The last fine Connery Bond flick imo.

The Living Daylights & GoldenEye - Without realizing it, I checked out two Bond movies from the library that also happened to introduce two actors new to the role and the franchise. I've never warmed up to Dalton's Bond, but I have friends keep telling me he's one of their favorites in the role. I kept an open mind, but after so many years since my last viewing of it, I just didn't think he presented as well-rounded a character as the other actors. I also didn't think his physicality playing an agent was great either, tho' he does get points for trying to play it differently than past actors. I still remember how much I disliked not just him but the production values of his Licence To Kill, so I'm not seeing that anytime soon. Ironically, I think he's great when he's playing villains in The Rocketeer and Hot Fuzz; in both films his characters are so well developed. As for GoldenEye, I really liked Brosnan's Bond, at least in his first two films. Seeing GoldenEye again after Daylights was like night and day how much tighter and engaging the script and pacing one film is over the other. Brosnan definitely benefits from having strong character material to work with, but the entire story and action scenes all come together with a more fulfilling two hours of Bond. Only bad thing is the score. Now looking forward to moving straight to the next Bond film that introduced a new actor, and it was a true reboot.

Hobo with a Shotgun - I'd always been intrigued with this since I heard about it and saw Rutger Hauer in the promotional art. A friend lent me his DVD and I finally watched it. It's a cheesy, over the top, blood and guts independent movie, not really my thing, but thankfully the gorey effects were obviously fake so I could handle it fine. Production values reminded me of the first Evil Dead. It is over the top and in a world of its own fantasy logic. It gave me some laughs.

I'm surprised the Underworld films aren't on that list. They are on mine.

TED -- The story about a boy who wished his teddy bear could talk back to him and be his friend forever.... is pretty darn funny. I thoroughly enjoyed this Seth MacFarlane flick.

Just saw the latest teaser trailer for the next Die Hard film, and I am definitely looking forward to seeing that when it comes out in February.

Well, be forewarned. Channing Tatum has gotten into the movie producing business (Magic Mike was basically an autobiography about himself) and there's going to be a sequel to 21 Jump Street. I did however like Depp's & DeLuise's cameo appearances in the first one though.

Re: The "What Movie Did You Just See?" thread RELOADED

I actually liked the 21 Jump Street Movie. And I agree, Ted was great.

Been watching lots of scary movies over the weekend:

    Halloween
The original Halloween is my all-time favorite scary movie. It's not bloody, not a lot of sexuality but it's just really awesome and still pretty damn scary.

    Halloween II
Love how this one picks up right where the original left off. It really is like one long movie. You can see they started to get into a lot of the horror movie traps of the day, but this movie still holds up very well.

    The Exorcist
I hadn't seen this in a lot of years. Still great and the last 1/2 hour is probably among the scariest portions of any movie. Even today.

    Scream
One of the few modern horror/slasher movies that lives up to the original Halloween (IMO). The initial death scene is so drawn out and great. The "twists" are good as well.

    Scream 2
Not as strong as the original, but it does a good job of making you think about 5-6 different people could be the killer.

    Bram Stoker's Dracula
My all-time favorite vampire/dracula movie. Gary Oldman is so amazing in this movie it's hard to believe that he and Francis Ford Coppola pretty much hated each other and fought every day on set. Not even Keanu could ruin this movie.

I saw the 4th one last year, and THAT was a waste. I was extremely disappointed with that one, especially with Emma Roberts' performance.

What I got a big laugh out of was the fact that Patrick Stewart was the narrator, and I talked to him just a few months prior at the local comic expo.

Watched a few more for my Halloween marathon...

    23. The Mist
    24. Halloween
    25. Halloween II
    26. Halloween III Season of the Witch
    27. Halloween 4 The Return of Michael Myers
    28. Halloween 5 The Revenge of Michael Myers
