Drug War. Itís very good from a technical standpoint. The script is smart in how the dense story details are intricately laid out but never get confusing. A lot of the on-location shots of the China you donít see in travel brochures are almost a bit jarring. There are some interesting things about the characters. Plus there's the actor Iíve never heard of who plays the lead investigator who gives an incredibly charismatic performance. All these positives and it probably should have worked better for me than it actually did. I just never felt fully invested.

Ghostbusters. I donít even know how many times I watched this on cable as a kid, but itís been years since I've seen it. Everything in this film gels together really well and the performances are very organic.

Ghostbusters II. I never minded that the basic plot structure is the same as the first or that it didnít expand the universe. Lesser film for sure, several scenes they should have cut or edited better, but I always thought this was funny.

Serenity. Iíve seen this twice before and really liked it but hadnít seen the TV show, so I finally watched the show over the past few weeks (only 14 episodes) and now the movie again. Now I definitely have more context for certain things in the film and bring in more love for the characters. The show is a lot funnier and more about the character relationships. The film is darker, more thrilling, scary, and it feels like there are much bigger stakes partly due to a great villain.

    Princess and the Frog:

This has to be legitimately be one of my favorite animated Disney films. I love how it's not your typical princess movie, and that Tiana has a goal behind finding a Prince Charming and living "Happily Ever After"

By the way, is that Frank Thomas at the end with Lou and the rest of the jazz band in Tiana's Palace?

The Sixth Sense- I liked it a lot better than most horror movies, as this one had a happy ending. I like happy endings . Also, I ended up caring about the characters, unlike in most horror movies I watch.
The Fox and The Hound- I forgot how depressing this one was. Why is it that I only remember the cute parts of Disney movies?

I totally agree with you on how depressing this movie is. I've seen it one time and one time only and that was more than enough. Just way too much of a downer for me.

Guardians of The Galaxy - I was invited by a friend to go see a preview screening of it in San Francisco earlier this evening, and I absolutely loved it! Lots of action and a lot of great humor (the whole theater was laughing at some parts). They didn't show the traditional Marvel post-credits scene at the end, but I'm definitely planning on seeing it again so I can catch that scene!

Guardians of the Galaxy - Saw it last night and loved it. Once it was over i wanted to see it again. The movie reminds you of the good space action movies of the 70-80's that got every kid excited. Lots of humor and plenty of action. Its a must see and great movie to end the summer

Must stay till the last credit

I believe it is. It's a tribute to the old band that many of the Nine Old Men were in called Firehouse Five Plus Two. You can get their music on iTunes.

GET ON UP -- The bio pic about James Brown is pretty good but it takes a while to get into the groove… or funk for that matter. It probably has some Oscar attached to it but I don't think I'll watch it more than once.

    GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY --
As a film I'll see more than once, this is certainly it. Definitely my new favorite movie of the year along with The Lego Movie. I just loved it. So much fun! And definitely stay till the end.

Guardians of the Galaxy is probably my new favorite MCU film. Loved the casting, characters, and the soundtrack was just perfect. I thought the villains were pretty weak, we only briefly saw Josh Brolins Thanos, and the only villain I felt posed any real threat (other than Thanos of course) was Nebula (portrayed by the beautiful and talented Karren Gillian).
I will say this, stay for the end credits scene (which I'm sure most of you do at Marvel movies anyway) because my mouth hit the floor when I saw it.

21 Jump Street. So we watched this for the first time thinking weíd be seeing the sequel soon but we still havenít yet. Anyway I laughed a lot and the idea of switching roles is pretty inspired.

The Bling Ring. The one thing Sofia Coppola is good at doing is reflecting a characterís moods whether that character is likable or not. Since this filmís characters are superficial and in most moments not particularly introspective, thatís a bit what the film feels like. So personally I ended up with mixed feelings, like maybe she should have written them in a more accessible way, but that would not be her style which has served her much better in her other films, it just happens that her other films characters can be more vulnerable. The blu-ray extras are pretty interesting including a doc on the real-life Bling Ring and even the Paris Hilton interview. Itís not clear if Ms. Hilton totally gets her personal contributions to the modern ideas of celebrity in our society which is a big theme of the movie, plus it comes off a bit self-glorifying and hypocritical for TMZ to be talking about their contributions to the true story, but nonetheless the extras are insightful in a way the movie was not.

    Don Jon
. Pretty good movie. Funny, warm, well written and directed. There is a lot about the guy's addiction, but this is really sort of a rom-com where porn is a device for examining peopleís expectations in relationships.

    The Hunt for Red October
    Patriot Games
    Clear and Present Danger
    The Sum of All Fears
    Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
Binge watched the Jack Ryan movies. Always loved the first three. Even the fourth, while maybe a short notch below the others, is pretty good. As for the newest reboot which I just saw for the first time, it was exciting but the whole Moscow settings felt a little more James Bond than the previous films and all the action more Jason Bourne.

Another Stakeout (1993) Not the greatest film, nor perhaps the greatest comedy, but still a nice light mild-action-mild-comedy film. Perhaps by today's standards there'd be more laugh out loud moments, but then by those same standards we'd have some stupid 'toilet humour' jokes.

I wouldn't be against a remake, if they ever felt the need.

Guardians of the Galaxy Just back from seeing this. I found it a little slow at the start but once they got to Xandar it all picked up. It was a little bit on the bizarre for my tastes, but after a while it just all became par for the course.

Loved the '80s (and '70s) soundtrack - (which has great album artwork on iTunes - its the tape deck) and rather than detracting from the film it all blended in well.

The FX were incredible. The kind that makes you think that they'll never be able to improve on it, but inevitably they will.

    As for post credits...
    Spoiler
I'd heard before I saw the film so it wasn't a shock. It felt a little bit of Disney saying; "we paid for him, we'll use him" moment, but in reality it was a nice Easter egg for the fans.

Overall perhaps not as great as I expected, but very good nonetheless.

Guardians of the Galaxy. I read a review comparing it to Joss Whedon's Firefly. It's like everything that made Firefly great multiplied. Really fun movie, great characters, a ton of hilarious jokes, visually rich, endless energy. This is a great year as far as quality action adventure films; Capt America 2, Edge of Tomorrow, and now this.

Way of the Dragon. I was surprised by the humor and the way Bruce's character is portrayed as kinda goofy in the 1st half of the film, not at all like his other movies. Anyway I liked it. Probably prefer Enter the Dragon.

    Silverado
. One of my favorites from the 80's. In retrospect it really romanticizes the old west and reveres western movies. That 80's feel-good crowd-pleasing kind of vibe probably served this film well.

    Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
. I enjoyed this before but always thought it was kinda overrated. I gave it a second chance and liked it better. But I will say that the much-loved flying still doesn't work for me. I think flying from much lesser kung-fu films actually looks and works much better. I know Ang Lee was trying to make it look different, but to me it just ended up looking awkward.

    Sense and Sensibility
. Somewhere in my top 15 or 20 films of all time. Funny and smart with a script that deserved it's Oscar. My wife believes my testosterone levels go down whenever I watch this.

Guardians of the Galaxy I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Rocket was the greatest! He would make a great walk-around character.

I also loved the soundtrack and had to get into iTunes right away and download it. I have been listening to it all day today at work. Great memories from childhood.

Speaking of memories from childhood, needless to say, I stayed until the end and loved the surprise. My wife and I were speechless at first and then turned to each other and screamed, “Ya!!!!”.

The Wizard of Oz After seeing a matinee of Guardians, that evening a classic gem of a movie was playing at Movies on the Green at Warner Center Park. We had to take the kids. We got there early, claimed a spot and had a picnic dinner followed by a great movie. A day that started with a fun morning, ended with a really nice evening.
