SHE'S OUT OF YOUR LEAGUE -- Pleasantly entertaining comedy about a young know-nothing guy that drives a crappy car, crappy job, not very attractive (a hard 5) who manages to go out with a 10. It starts that guy who's in Sorcerer's Apprentice, How to Train Your Dragon... you know the guy with the weird voice. I just can't remember his name.

    Anyway, I enjoyed it.

Sex and the Single Girl-A classic Tony Curtis movie with Natalie Wood, Henry Fonda and Lauren Becall. Not really a great a Tony Curtis movie but it was fun to watch. This movie reminded me of "Down with Love".

    Continuing my Halloween moviethon...

Trick 'R Treat - Not bad. This was the first time I've seen it. But, I was a little confused as to who the target audience was. Was it for kids, teens, or adults? I mean the movie opens with a couple coming home from a Halloween party - Battlestar Galactica's Helo, and the reporter from Iron Man. The girl from Iron Man starts cleaning up the Halloween decorations outside while Helo goes inside the house and starts watching a porno. Um, ok. The movie has a bit more kids than teens in it actually. The interwoven stories were interesting. I think it would've been better if they left out the porno scene and polished the stories a little more. But, it wasn't bad. Sam, the little gunny sack-head demon child (who looks like a baby Skeletor beneath the mask) is to this like Billy the Puppet is to the Saw movies, but they didn't really explain his story. Oh well, maybe in a sequel?

Agreed. One of those movies that I wasn't expecting much from that we ended up really enjoying.

    Frankenstein (1931)

The kids had never seen it, I think they enjoyed it. I don't think my youngest quite understood why everything looked so "fake". Maybe he doesn't get the concept that they didn't have computer graphics in 1931.

it's amazing really.. even something as recent as the first Harry Potter film already looks obsolete as far as graphics/effects go!

i just re-watched Toy Story 3. i've noticed that unless i watch it in its entirety, i dont feel as moved at the end. but when i watch the whole thing, it reminds me why i loved the movie so much when i first saw it in theaters. gah, that ending.. so good!!

    His Name Was Jason

A pretty comprehensive look at the Friday the 13th Franchise from it's beginnings to now. Some really great cast interviews (seems they had everybody except Kevin Bacon). It's on Demand right now (STARZ) and certainly worth checking out if you are a fan.

A classic! Boris Karloff actually started his entertainment career here in BC (in Kamloops).

I continued my Halloween moviethon with...

Disney's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow - What can I say? A childhood favourite. I haven't pulled out my Gold Collection DVD for a couple years and realized how washed out the colors are. This one badly needs a new restored re-release (and not just a shiny new slipcover as available on the DMC). The sound could use a little restoration too.

The Wolfman (2010 - Unrated Director's Cut) - I like this one. Just the 2nd time I've seen it. I really don't know why it got the flack it did (although I didn't see the theatrical release). What hurt this movie the most, was the akward release date. Had it been released at the beginning of October, it would've done well. But, some bonehead over at Universal decided to release it on February 12 - the same day as the start of the Winter Olympics here in Vancouver. Of course, people were glued to their TVs at home watching the opening ceremonies, and then sports for two weeks. Locally it was in the theater for only maybe three weeks. I'm hoping it gets an interest boost right now for Halloween and more people see it on DVD. I thought it captured the feel of the original quite well (I admit though, some CGI wasn't that great [the stag and the bear]). Rick Baker's makeup work was great - capturing the look of the original but also modernizing it a bit. This one will definitely be an annual Halloween viewing event for me.

Disney Halloween-themed shorts - Ok so technically not a movie, but I went on Youtube and watched a bunch of the old shorts. The ones that I watched:
    • Skeleton Dance (1929)
    • The Haunted House (1929)
    • The Mad Doctor (1933)
    • The Old Mill (1937)
    • Lonesome Ghosts (1937)
    • Donald's Lucky Day (1939)
    • Donald and the Gorilla (1944)
    • Trick or Treat (1952)
    • Night on Bald Mountain (from Fantasia)
Disney really needs to put out a compilation DVD of these. They did a few for Christmas, why not Halloween?

Hocus Pocus - I haven't seen this movie in its entirety since its theatrical release in 1993. I finally picked it up on DVD last November for $9. The time was right to finally open it up and give it a viewing. Still a fun movie. Sarah Jessica Parker plays the perfect blonde.

I just watched The Exorcist for the first time.
Scariest movie ever? Maybe. Movies don't exactly frighten me all too much. To me a scary movie is one that makes me jump and crap myself, and I don't enjoy those kind of movies.
Is it a good movie? Oh hell yeah

    MacGruber

Got through about 15 minutes before I turned it off. Don't waste your time, not even worth the rental.

    Nosferatu

It's a little hard to get into at first considering it's a silent movie, but it's truly a very good movie and quite fascinating.
