I guess I didn't see a whole movie, but I saw 24 minutes of TRON LEGACY. I give it major thumbs up.

    Continuing my Halloween moviethon...

Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (A Nightmare on Elm Street 6) - Wow is this one bizarre. It's like watching a messed-up episode of Pee Wee's Playhouse, or a really bad 80s MTV music video. Robert Englunud is great though, and this scene is hilarious, Johnny Depp's cameo:
YouTube - Johnny Depp's Cameo in The Final Nightmare
And of course Freddy didn't "die", as Wes Craven brought him back in new form in Elm Street 7.

    "...and your little dog too!"

Wes Craven's New Nightmare (A Nightmare on Elm Street 7) - another bizarre one in the series, where actors and production crew from the Elm Street franchise are playing themselves. Interesting but bizarre. Unfortunately, this one feels a like a cheapo HBO movie.

    +1, still my favorite.

And Barbossa, My seniors are currently reading Frankenstein, and I can't wait to show them the Branagh version to show the sheer lunacy of the ending and how far it drifted from the novel.

Last Thursday went to the Rifftrax Live showing of House on Haunted Hill. After seeing all 4 of the live shows, I think this one might have been the funniest. I can't remember laughing as hard during the shorts and movie as this one, though the grass one from Reefer Madness comes close...

Re: The "What Movie Did You Just See?" thread RELOADED

Goldfinger - Amazon had the Blu-ray in a steelbook on sale finally, so I ordered it. Of Connery's first four outings at Bond tho', this is my least fave of them.

Forbidden Planet & Watch the Skies! Science Fiction, the 1950's and Us - I had never seen Forbidden Planet before. A friend recommended it and played the Id monster attack for me several months ago and I thought it was imaginative. I picked up the Blu-ray and finally watched it this week and Wow! For a film release in 1956, the film generally holds up well. Just the time warp to 1950's male-female attitudes were the only things that pulled me out of it. Then, seeing it as the inspiration for Star Trek was fascinating. Loved it! Also watched the documentary Watch the Skies! on the disc. Really impressed with how big a fans Lucas, Spielberg, Dante, Scott and others are about 50's sci-fi flicks.

TRON - It's very interesting to see the opening to this now after seeing the 9-minute preview of TRON: Legacy playing at elecTRONica. TRON: Legacy presents the world of TRON so much better now!! I've been reading on discussion boards of how diehard fans are upset that Disney isn't releasing it on Blu-ray before the new movie comes out. Seeing it again re-enforces my agreement with Disney; keep it out of view from the general public, who just aren't going to forgive the limitations of 1980's special effects and early computer animation they'll see in it, and let TRON: Legacy take the responsibility to bring today's audiences "to the grid" on its own. Otherwise, it's great seeing TRON again just two months before the sequel arrives. I'm sure I'll see it once or twice more by then.

BRUNO -- egads. I give Sasha credit for having the balls to pull this kind of stuff off but that was a difficult movie to stomach.

The Karate Kid (new one)- not bad actually. i mean i've never seen the original one though so i don't really have anything to compare it to, but i still thought it was good for someone who wasn't really interested in watching it in the first place

Now that's the type of movie that has Halloween written all over it!

    Continuing my Halloween moviethon...

The Haunted Mansion - Fun, but not great. Even though people dislike Eddie Murphy in this, I actually dislike the way the girl is portraying his daughter - acting "cool" and "grown-up" and as if everything is lame. And Master Gracey comes off like a slimeball in this. The effects are great though. I do like the mausoleum scene. It's cool that they didn't use CGI for the corpses/zombies. Here's hoping del Toro's reboot will be better.

They guy playing the ghost on the right, is he the one that played the White Witch's assistant in the first Narnia? The voice sounds the same and the height is about right.

Young Frankenstein - A great Mel Brooks classic. The "Puttin' on the Ritz" scene always cracks me up.
    "What knockers!"
    "Why, thank you doctor!"

I've got one more movie I want to watch to cap off this year's Halloween moviethon. I'll watch it today after I get home from work.

    33. The Monster Squad
    34. A Nightmare on Elm Street 6: Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare
    35. A Nightmare on Elm Street 7: Wes Craven's New Nightmare
    36. The Haunted Mansion
    37. Young Frankenstein
    38. Ghostbusters II

I started it with Ghostbusters, I'm book-ending it with Ghostbusters II. Even though it gets flack, which I don't understand, it's still a fun movie. Here's hoping for Ghostbusters III.

What kicked off this year's Halloween moviethon for me and making it a little extra special this year, was meeting Dan Aykroyd back on Sept 22 at the local Crystal Head Vodka signing. Wow, 38 movies and/or TV specials. Not bad, the most I've ever watched in the run-up to Halloween. There's lots in the list they I watched for the first time too. Hopefully I'll have the time next year to watch this many. I had fun watching them all.

With Remembrance Day coming up next week on Nov 11, I'm going to start watching some war movies, and have a little war moviethon.

SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD - highly entertaining but maybe a bit drawn out. I think I was beginning to tire of the fights after awhile. But overall a fun quirky movie.
