Sad Say it ain't so! Miyazaki to retire.

Disney may have finally found the grail. You don't need
imagination or art. All you need is a brand."

Not surprising. He's been saying for years that he's retiring and always comes back and makes another. Not saying we'll see another Miyazaki movie, but make up your mind, old man, haha. I love Miyazaki. Spirited Away is my absolute favorite animated movie.

With his expertise, I figure it just means no more features.

One could see him still developing shorts for the Ghibli museum, as well as mentoring and helping the current crop of filmmakers at Ghibli.

i did wonder on another MB, if Ghibli's other co-founder might have a retirement announcement soon. Isao Takahata (director of Grave of the Fireflies, Only Yesterday, & My Neighbors the Yamadas) is 77, and has a film coming out is November in Japan.

Man's been working in the field since the 1960s. After fifty years, man wants to retire, let him retire.

That being said, it should be noted that he's *already* signed for working as a writer on a new TV adaptation of Lupin the Third. I've always been overly fond of Cagliostro, I'm looking forward to it.
Credibility is to be sought for. Credulity is not. Sadly the latter is our normal human state.

Spirited Away is still my favorite non-Disney animated film (Iron Giant a close second). Best wishes for a happy and well deserved retirement.
