The Matterhorn Yetis don't go through the same stress, but it's nice when the show elements always work. WDW likely doesn't want to spend money on repairing the EE Yeti yet.

I don't think of it so much as they don't "Want" to.

But with AK, you run into the same issue they would have at DCA if they closed Screamin', or Soarin' (neither of which has had an EXTENSIVE rehab in 7 1/2 years). For most people, DAK is ALL about Everest. And taking down a major E-ticket for an extended amount of time is not too desirable.

EE is currently my favorite Disney coaster, and the yeti is only a tiny factor in the ride. I'd love to see it working properly, but its absence is in no way a deal breaker for me.

Then again it could be that they didn't allow the pour to set properly or log enough due to the humidity in Florida (yes unlikely but depending on how the project was scheduled and penalties/bonuses paid it can happen) or there might have been defects in the building materials themselves that where not discovered at the time they where used.

Or maybe the mouse should have the Yetti screened for performance enhancers... first baseball now this...
I used to be one of the people responsible for oversight. I was a engineer doing inspection on earthworks. A builder would hire a contractor to build something and they would hire me (well the company I worked for) to make sure the earthworks were done correctly. There were many times contractors did things when I was not looking and they assured me it was done correctly. I would make them pull it all out and re-do it with me watching. I had a number of "accidental near misses" with dozers, loaders, excavators, etc. but I was not about to sign off on something that later could fail. I was on one job where the contractor complained about me so much that the builder took me off the job. Four weeks later one of the Partners of the company called me up to tell me to look at the local newspaper. Big headline "Whats buried at the (Jobsite I was on)". We went out and did test pits. Anywhere on that building pad that I signed off on was fine. Everywhere else, placed after they made me leave, we found buried garbage, vegitation, nests of boulders, etc. Yeah, somtimes construction can be fun.

Re: Yeti Problems...A big "uh-oh"?

That it was explained when I read about the yeti is that its "back is broken" Now that is somewhat broad, even sarcastic.
Now, there is a structural beam that is connected to the yeti at its back. If this is the fractured piece, I would think that it would need some serious work, but less complicated than a fractured foundation.

As stated, things like this shouldn't happen, a copy of the AA was created and underwent months of testing. But considering the the object weighs 10 tons and moves up and down 2 feet and 5 feet side to side, I guess it *could* happen.

Oh and it doesn't normally have the force of a 747. Only in certain cases it does.

A stress fracture in the foundation would be much more complicated to fix I think but I'm sure Dave can elaborate on what can be done.

What's more desirable? Take the ride down temporarily so the star attraction operates with its star AA actually working right? Or keep the ride operating with its star AA looking embarassingly broken?

I understand how important Everest is to DAK, but I really hope that the Yeti gets fixed once the summer season is over with. When one of a second gate park's star attractions break down, it easily shows how dumb the Eisner way of building parks with as few major attractions as possible was.

Re: Yeti Problems...A big "uh-oh"?

All the more reason build a new E-ticket soon...then people wouldn't notice as much if EE was closed for refurb. But I can appreciate how guests could be mightily peeved if they travel hundreds of miles, buy a ticket, then find that the main reason that they are at AK is closed. It would be easier in CA where locals can hear about closures and then just come back later in the year.

Give him a funky silver suit and an afro.

Hopefully the issue isn't as dramatic as it sounds and he'll be up working regularly again.

I think it would have been nice if they had made a slightly smaller Yeti that works instead of one that is so big that it is hard to maintain.

Re: Yeti Problems...A big "uh-oh"?

Honestly though, if they had a yeti costume character in the park he would be a big hit. Yeti could be the mascot of the park.

It isn't a matter of the size, it's the management that isn't handling the situation properly.
