I felt the same way until I saw B mode for the first time in July. IMO, the ride wasn't the same. Maybe I am getting used to it now and some of the wow factor has wore off, but it seemed like a totally different experience from the A mode version...and a crappy one a that.

I should start out by stating right off the bat that I've never been to DAK.

That being said, I've noticed that a lot of people have implied that Expedition Everest was the selling point of the whole park, and that the park wouldn't really be worthwhile without it.

As I said, I've never been there, but...I always thought that the animals themselves were supposed to be the big draw, and that the park was supposed to be a souped-up zoo, Disney-style, with rides and attractions added in.

Under this pretense, a thrill-ride based on a mythological beast shouldn't be so important as some are making it out to be. Am I wrong?

If I am right about the initial intent of the park, and EE really has become the be-all, end-all of the park's appeal, then that's a pretty sad statement.

"What, the kids aren't digging the idea of learning about exotic animals from far off places, and seeing them in person in a way that only Disney can provide? Hmmmm....okay, give them a thrill-ride with a robotic Yeti."

It's certainly possible that I'm naive (or just plain wrong) about the importance of the live animals in the park, but the fact that it's not called Yeti Kingdom, or Fantasy Monster Island (Featuring Some Real Animals Too) would seem to indicate otherwise.

I'm not claiming to be absolutely right, or that anyone else is absolutely wrong. Just tossing out some food for thought.
No, EE is not the be-all and end-all at AK. But, it is the best ride in the park, and the only E ticket coaster in a park that badly needed a thrill ride. The EE Mountain is also a landmark that can be seen from almost anywhere in AK. For all these reasons, Disney's Animal Kingdom is not complete without it.

My family is at WDW this week and called me to let me know that, in their opinion, the Yeti B mode is awful. They thought the ride was definitely not the same. Apparently, you could blink and miss him and the strobes look tacky...however, this is coming from people who frequent visitors and have seen the Yeti in A mode often.

Re: Yeti Problems...A big "uh-oh"?

Saw on another site that while the real repairwork is taking place (which may or may not involve removal of the yeti for the fixes to take place) they are going to put up a black screen on which they will project a shadow of a yeti jumping towards the train.

While that sounds lame to me, if it means that the thing will be fixed, I'm all for it.

I am going to be a DAK on September 28th, 2008. What can I expect from our good old friend, "THE YETI"?

Expect him to be not working. Rumor says it will be several months until he works again.

May as well close the ride. The one element which is the center of attention and the storyline's most prominent plot is broken. Leave it up to WDW to offer a bad show like this. At nearly $80 per day at DAK... that is pretty pathetic and sad.

I agree that it's sad that this happened. But shut down the ride? Not a chance. While the yeti is an important element to the ride, it's still a totally fun ride without the big guy. If it would help them fix the yeti sooner, then I say yeah, shut it down.

Re: Yeti Problems...A big "uh-oh"?

It's diappointing. I can not believe they aren't willing to fix this asap to maintain the level of quality this ride deserves. Then again... that has been WDW of late, where ride elements take months to fix or are neglected altogether to save the mighty dollar it may take to fix things. Hate to say it again... but this would never happen at TDR. No wonder I am so totally disgusted by the current management at WDW and why it's so easy to praise OLC.

Long time lurker, first time poster. And I feel like this really needs to be said....

TDLFAN, seriously...I know you just loooove Tokyo Disneyland. It's obvious the way you namedrop it in 90% of your posts. The Yeti not working in EE is definitely a serious disappointment I agree. But your responses are getting old. In fact, at this point they're just obnoxious. We get it, you don't like the way WDW is run and you think TDL is the be-all and end-all in Disney parks. But seriously, enough is enough. I also agree that there's a lot at WDW that should be fixed and that I'm not 100% happy with it with but your responses are just played out.

There, I said my peace. Carry on people.

Re: Yeti Problems...A big "uh-oh"?

Still strobing away, but I've read on another site that there might be signs of work being done. (Work lights in the area behind him on, etc.)

One rumor is that the fix for the foundation would be so huge (and expensive) that he may never again go into full "a" mode, and a new limited animation may be put in place for good.
