    Yeti Problems...A big "uh-oh"?

So we just moved to central FL and have been going to the parks every weekend. The yeti had been down for all my visits to DAK. Friday I got to Everest and casually asked the ride-op who was just standing at the single rider entrance if the Yeti was working. He said (which really surprised me that he would offer up such info.) that it was discovered a few weeks ago that he cracked his foundation. Wow! Anyone else hear this or anything similar?

Hopefully Rohde or some other higher-up can use their clout to fix whatever the problem is. Not having a functional AA really diminishes the attraction.

I hope this isn't a safety issue with the ride itself.

Well, the Discovery shows said that the Yeti, Mountain, and coaster have completely seperate foundations, so that should be no problem.

I have heard that the Yeti would occasionally be down from time to time in the past, but this sounds like an ongoing problem. It's really bad if the Yeti doesn't work in Expedition Everest. The Yeti is the only really jaw droppingly amazing moment in the entire ride, and without it, the ride losts a huge amount of it's appeal. Whatever happened to Disney rides being filled with jaw droppingly amazing moments?

Yeah, I've heard that he's down from time to time, whch makes sense as complex as he is, but the fact that it's been weeks makes me wonder if the CM was right.

This a perfect example why 3D images on screens are better than real AAs.

I read something similar to the OP.

Mikeland- The ride or structure should not have any problems themselves, or at least not related to the yeti.

You've got to remember that this AA is as big as a room. The hand that swipes you is taller than Joe Rhode (There's a DVD showing how they designed and made it - Discovery Channel - "Designing a Thrill Ride") I don't think it has actually been in show mode for a long time. I suppose to fix its problem they'd have to shut down the ride and most of us wouldn't want that. I agree the flashing lights are not the same as when he actually moves but I guess they won't do anything until a refurb is due.

Thanks for the info Peabody and welcome to FL! Ignore TDLFan, he's never happy unless he's in Tokyo. :P

O.K. everyone. The Yeti has 2 modes. There is "A" Mode where he swipes at you and looks like he did in Discovery Specials. Next, there is the "B" Mode where the Yeti is broken down and is still. To make him look scary in this mode, they shine a strobe light on him.FYI, I did not make this up.
How he cracked his foundation, I don't know. It seems like he could, with all the pressure of swaying back and forth.
