Sad OK, I seriosly need help on whether I should ride SM or not.

OK. I'm a TOTAL weenie. I HATE roller coasters, HATE ANY drops, HATE getting wet, and I'm going to the magic Kingdom with a friend. My friend is pleading with me to go on the ride- is Splash Mountain intense?
Please give me details on the intensity of the drops and speed and such.

Infusing a little science into the conversation, Splash's drop is...

52 1/2 feet and is at a 45 degree angle.

    Hope it helps.

I am THE biggest chicken in the world. I promise you. HUGE!!!! I hate loops, and I'm scared of heights. But, Splash Mountain is one of my very favorite rides. I LOVE the story...it's one of my favorites from childhood. The drop is a little scary...the first time you go down. But, if you go at night...the view kills any fear. When you get to the very top, you look out over the park...and see all the beautiful lights of the Magic Kingdom and Cinderella Castle. Totally worth it.

Hint...if you don't like getting wet...bring a poncho. We did this last year...and we were totally dry getting off the ride. Be ready though...there's two big chances to get wet...when you first get on the ride, and you are circling the outside...you pass the big drop. If a log is going down...you might get wet. We got drenched once. The second is, of course the drop. But, with a poncho...you'll be fine.

Most of Splash Mountain isnt intense. There are about 3 drops, 2 small ones and 1 big one. The big drop is 5 stories tall and is a 45 degree angle. You dont get too wet if you sit in the middle of the log. But, it is one of the best attractions in the park.
Most of my info has been covered already.

The final drop is pretty intense, but it's just so much fun. And the rest of the ride is pretty mild. I say gather up a little courage and enjoy one of the best rides in WDW.

Jeeze you waited 20 minutes for a response before this post?

If you're scared, don't ride it! Live your life for you, not your friends. If they want to ride it let them. You can go do something else and meet up later.

I would say go for it, but if it's going to get you so worked up that it ruins the rest of your day, then let it go. You don't want to be a party pooper for the rest of the day if you don't like it. It's your friend's trip too, after all.

In all honesty it is just something that you have to decide for yourself to do or not. Everyone's experience is different. I for one hate roller coasters and drops. Having said that I have been on space mountain a few times, because of friends, and I do not like that ride and avoid it if possible. However Thunder Mt. is my all time favorite ride(which I was too chicken to go on for a while). Go figure. It took me many years and many many trips to MK to go on splash and I was talked into it with a group of friends from work. I had myself so scared that I couldn't tell you what went on with the story leading to the drop because every second I was asking "is this it"? It was not fun for me. Will I go on it again? perhaps eventually, after many more trips to the MK and with another cute guy to hold onto

I say give it a shot! Just once! And if you like it, YAY! If you don't, never go on it again and you can tell people that you tried it and hated it.....but I think you'll like it! hehe!

    My best score ever!

I'm a big chicken as well and I love this ride. What helps me is to sit in the middle of the log. Most of the ride is really calm and the big drop is over before you know it!

like I told my kid 3 years ago.... if you do not ride it you will always wonder how it was.... its only a few minutes out of your life . my daughter could not get enough after her first time!!
Same with me.... I hated to think of tower of terror.... but I did it and love it!! just do it, stop being a scared rabbit and take the plunge. yuor friend will hav e someone to go with and you can say you did it.

I had the same debate about whether or not to ride and decided against it. And I'm glad I did. I checked out a video of it on youtube and just watching the buildup to the biggest drop made me twitchy. See how you react to rides with smaller drops, like Pirates, and gauge from there.

It's not a roller coaster. There are no high speed turns, or loops, or inversions.

It has a big drop at the end

You can get wet on it

HATE is such a strong word. So, are you scared or do you hate it. There is a big difference. My one kid is scared of drops but rides it because she likes the rest of the ride and she can put up with the 5 seconds of fear.

However if you HATE it, well then why go on it.

Of course fear is another topic allthoughter

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
    Only I will remain."
