Believe it or not, They started putting the Christmas lights on the Castle today. Does it really make sense to put them up THIS EARLY!

IGER MUST GO!
it must be a commercial shoot. but happy holidays everyone yay.
Me no likey. Holidays for 5 months? It's supposed one festive month or so, not half the year.
Down with the Hat
I'm glad they weren't up when I was there Friday.
any pictures of the castle? Im so excited.
The first Christmas party is November 10th, which is still nearly 3 months away. Maybe it takes a while to put the lights on the castle? I don't remember when they went up last year.
It's likely publicity related. It's happened at Disneyland before where snow randomly appears on main street in the middle of july for a commercial or to pretape something. We at least put up a sign explaining it to people though.
ORDDU: My sisters and I noticed the same thing when we were at the Magic Kingdom a week ago--on Aug. 9th!!! We couldn't believe our eyes. It shouldn't have to take that long to apply all those lights.
ORWEN: Plus they look just awful during the day time. I would hate it if I was a guest who didn't get to go to the parks very often and then had to put up with a castle that looked like it had barbed wire all over it during the day.
It is early. Very early for Christmas lights.
I remember seeing the Osborne lights up at DHS (then Disney MGM of course) during our summer visit in 2007 and was told that due to the amount of work required, it was easier to leave them up then take them down. At least they didn't do that to the castle ... not yet anyway.
They started going up that day.
Of course, the light are not very visible at all and will not be turned on until sometime in November.
There are a few practical reasons as to why the lights are being put up now.
Not sure why some are complaining because the Osbourne lights always go up in August as well.
That's the price WDW has to pay for having such a huge castle. It takes them longer to decorate it.
ORWEN: I have to disagree with the person who says 'they aren't very visible at all." It's just the opposite. They looked awful when we saw them on one side of the castle on August 9th. It looks like a giant spider went and started spinning a web over the castle. Last year they waited until at least November before putting up the lights and I don't understand why they couldn't have waited until November to do the same thing THIS year.
