I do not have any stories perse.. but I do remember the ride's scenes quite vividly. It was a favorite that is sorely missed. Thank God DL still has this ride their lineup. Reason to go to DL more often.

I was at Disney World in 1997, and I didn't realize that Mr. Toad was there then. I wish that I had experienced it. I guess I wasn't up on things back then. Not that I'm that knowledgeable now.

Re: 10 Years Ago Today...

I vividly remember going on Mr. Toad during my first WDW visit at the age of 2. I rode with my dad and was TERRIFIED. I remained so scared that I even refused to go on DL's version during my first trip at the age of 7. Finally I mustered up the courage to conquer my fears and went on DL's Mr. Toad when I was 11. I have no idea what all the fuss was about!

I miss Toad. I was a member of the Save Toad campaign. I remember one time I was so enthusiastic to ride I somehow managed to trip while getting into the ride vehicle and scraped my knee a little. Typical clumsy moment for me. I just laughed it off and got on and got a band-aid from first aid after.

Re: 10 Years Ago Today...

I loved Mr Toad's Wild ride, it was one of my favorites growing up, particularly when both sides where running since it was fun to have the cars narrowly miss each other in Toad hall. Man it really whipped you around some of those tight turns... It gave you the perception of the ride car running out of control, even though it was perfectly safe. It was well though out, well designed, and amazingly executed.

It was a classic dark ride yes, the cutouts where mostly 2-D and all, nothing as fancy as the more modern rides that have come after it to be sure but it was incredibly well done, better in fact than most of the newer attractions in the past 10 years in many ways. The whole train tunnel with just the one light and sound effect had a theater of the mind aspect where your own fears and instincts made the effect seem real and far more intense than any of the newer high tech special effects ever could. Most of all I loved the little devils at the end when you wound up in Hell, it was a lot of fun and proof that you don't need a ton of special effects and high tech systems to make a great ride.

I think it was also the point where I lost faith in petitions to Disney to save things... The Save Mr Toads website and petition made national news, had tons of signatures, and they tore it out anyways...

Not trying to be a wisenheimer here, but has there ever been one that's actually worked? I've honestly never heard of one, and would be interested to hear about it.

I think Pooh works better within the context of Fantasyland.

The ones that got Disney to release The Black Cauldron to VHS and Newsies to DVD. But those worked because Disney knew they would make $ from them if they did. Saving Pooh would not get them to build a gift shop.

Re: 10 Years Ago Today...

I remember riding that when I was kid with my parents in 1981.... I remember getting freaked out, because I thought there was a train coming for us at that one part of the ride.

Ahhh good times...

Very jealous that DL still has this ride, but us WDW'ers get the shaft.

Yeah but DL's only has one path I think not the two different scenes... (can anyone confirm this one...memory's a bit fuzzy) They lost their country bears to get their version of Pooh mostly because Mr. Toad was refurbed recently over there.

Wow....Newsies? Really?

Anyway, is anyone else aware of any other such successful grassroots movements?
