Re: Here's the announcement you've been waiting for...

A far better idea than Year of Million Dreams. And better still...my birthday next year is on Saturday! I foresee a drive down to Orlando...

I never use park hopper so that's OK by me...I don't go to Orlando all that often but when I do, I like to take my time and enjoy whichever park I'm at for the day.

Re: Here's the announcement you've been waiting for...

Did anyone else notice the contradictory FAQs about using the pass on your birthday? First they say you HAVE to use the ticket on your birthday.

"The free admission on your birthday ticket means just what it says. It's only good for free admission on the Ticket Holder's birthday."

Then they go on to say if you already have a multi-day ticket or annual pass, you can receive "A 1-day Magic Your Way base ticket for you to use any time until your next birthday."

I know what they meant, but they should have revised that to say something like, "you can only REDEEM this offer on your birthday" because it's obvious you can use the ticket on any other day if you wish. LOL! Oops.

I think it's a pretty cool promotion. I think it will encourage a lot of people to go to the parks when they would not have normally. I'll proly take a trek up there to get the gift certificate. Any excuse to attend the parks I take.

Re: Here's the announcement you've been waiting for...

I have to admit I am disappointed with this. It's just another gimmicky way to get people to come to WDW instead of offering solid entertainment that goes a long way for ALL guests as opposed to the selected few.

Given the dire predictions that many people were making, this promotion seems neat enough to me!

Re: Here's the announcement you've been waiting for...

I think the more interesting announcement that came out today according to mouseplanet.com is that starting in November SoCal DL passholders will be able to pay for their AP's over 12 months. I wonder if we will be getting that over here at WDW. It would make it alot easier for FL residents to get AP's if they did this. Universal and the Busch parks offer this. Mine and my wifes Universal and SW/BGT passes are paid for this way. We haven't been able to renew her WDW pass cause we simply don't have the $360 to drop right now on a pass but we could do it if it was spread out over 12 months. I guess we will see.

I want more substance from Disney and they are capable of doing that. Freebie are Ok but not something that I feel explores the true cutting edge potential of the Disney parks. Reason why I am not impressed because I don't fall for such little marketing traps. Considering my B-day comes up in Nov... I do not plan to take advantage of this in the least.

Thanks...I wasn't able to visit the Studios before they installed the Hat...then when I was able to go, I kept delaying my trip hoping that on my first trip, I could walk down Hollywood Blvd and see the Chinese Theater...then I gave up and went last year Sadly, even the fan community seems divided on the issue...many actually like this garish monstrosity...which diminishes the chances of bringing it down from its present location. On the bright side, the Studios will be getting a lot of attention the next decade. Theme might be thrown out the window, but at least, if rumors are true, there will be some needed refurbs and quality additions.

Back on topic...and with regard to TDLFan's comments...I am all for adding substance to the parks, but I don't see this promotion as interfering with that long term goal. For someone such as myself, who does not visit frequently enough to warrant an annual pass...that's an extra $75 plus tax in the pocket, and I'll take that...assuming that I'm not swamped with work that particular weekend

Re: Here's the announcement you've been waiting for...

According to their FAQs, you can upgrade the free birthday admission ticket to another type of ticket and only have to pay the incremental cost. That, plus the fact that you can pick up your free ticket up to 7 days before your birthday, means that you could go to a park within 7 days of your birthday, pick up the free ticket, and upgrade it to a 7 day ticket for $153 ($228 7 day - $75 one day).

Q: Can I upgrade my free birthday ticket to another ticket type?

A: Yes, the free birthday ticket may be upgraded to another ticket type on your birthday. However the celebrant is responsible for the incremental cost and the new ticket may only be used by the celebrant. In addition, the One Day/One Park Ticket good for 12 months (an option for select Guests) may not be upgraded.

Q: What if my birthday falls during our visit, but it is not on the first day. Will I be able to pick up my ticket or other options on the first day of my arrival?

A: You can visit our designated "Will Call" windows at any of the four theme parks up to seven days prior to your birthday to pick up your free birthday ticket which will only be valid on your birthday.

Re: Here's the announcement you've been waiting for...

well that is confusing...

so you can pick up your birthday ticket up to 7 days in advance... but what if you are taking the one-day ticket alternate prize that is good for 12months. I would assume you still can only pick that up on your bday.

So many choices!

I believe the one day alternative is only for AP holder's who have tickets, so you go in on your AP and take a friend for free sometime in the next year or use it after your AP has expired if you choose not to renew it for some reason. Still has the same effect in Disney's marketeers eyes, gets more butts thru the turnstiles to keep the park ranked#1 and buy food and souvenirs.

They said its for if you already have a multiday ticket as well. But 'just go on in with your AP'... that's the thing. Going on your bday may be a problem, so the 7 day window would open that up massively. They've done it for the multiday tickets... I wonder why the exception there, but possibly not for APs. I mean.. going to a ticket window in the middle of your trip is not that big of a hassle

Oh.. and they claim the 1 day ticket is only good for YOU.. so its not being promoted as take a buddy type thing.

True but unless they scan your fingerprint at the ticket booth or ask for ID at the gate how will they track that?
