Here's the announcement you've been waiting for...

Go to Disney for FREE on your birthday!!

Offer good at both Walt Disney World & Disneyland. You must have valid ID showing your birthdate.

Guess it wouldn't really affect me unless I was a local. And then, I'd probably have an A.P., anyway.

To my knowledge, no MYW ticket has ever required spending its days consecutively. Unless the 'no expiration' is bought, they expire after 13 days from first day of use, or something like that. So buying a 4-day MYW ticket and skipping a day because it's the birthday day shouldn't be a problem.

What WILL require forethought and finagling is when the family goes with someone, or a couple someones who will have birthdays. While the someones get free days, the rest of the family will not. So then to take advantage of the free day, park hoppers of different lengths will have to be purchased. But this can be avoided by choosing one of the other perks offered to birthday people that isn't free admission. These include a special merchandie/recreation/fun activities gift card or a special (dream?) FastPass good for up to 6 people. These perks will also only be valid on the birthday (until they decide to loosen that restriction like they have for DFP's).

Re: Here's the announcement you've been waiting for...

I would take the gift card no matter what. I have an AP - but if you have a 5 day park hopper, it only takes a couple of days to add to it. Better to take something with more value.

You can definitely skip days, as long as the ticket is used within 13 days of the first day, or if you buy the no expiry option and then you can use it anytime. (But I generally don't recommend that as it's not worth the cost...)

Well they are capitalizing on the trend in "celebration travel" where people go on vacations to celebrate special events. This is an enticement for those people to visit one of the Disney parks. Local or not.

The really cool thing is if you are an AP holder you can get a gift card for the value of a 1 day park ticket that's valid for that day in lieu of a free ticket to spend on food and merchandise in the parks, perhaps to buy a custom t-shirt and mouse ears to celebrate the occasion.

I agree, it's the right promotion at the right time and it's something that anyone can take advantage of on their birthday versus a lottery like prize draw like with the current YOMD campaign which dosn't really help the majority of park guests.

Now that they've explained it out... it's a no brainer to take the gift card option rather then mess with ticket variations between the rest of your party. I mean, on a 5+ day ticket, the extra cost is so low.. and you get a gift card for the 1 day base ticket value.

I see this promo helping Disneyland bring in locals that aren't APs.. but I really don't see this helping bring people to WDW. It's just going to cost them money at WDW

You'll need a valid ID that shows proof of your birthday. You can get a state-issued ID for like $5. That would work.

Detecting Browser Properties . . .

Quote:

Q: What kind of identification do I need to show at the ticket booth?

A: If you're age 18 or older, valid date of birth identification includes: Government-issued Passport, Driver's License, Government-issued Photo ID or Birth Certificate. If you are under age 18 and don't have any of the abovementioned ID, an original birth certificate or a notarized copy of a birth certificate is required.
