Is the Yeti working in E.E.?

My Family and I went to WDW last year, and had an amazing time! We stayed at the Contemporary, which is a very excellent hotel. We'll be heading back there in only a few months and will be staying at the Polynesian. Since our favorite ride was Expedition Everest, I was wondering if the Yeti is back to "A" mode, where he lunges at you, instead of "B" mode, where he just moves his arm and there are strobe lights. We saw both while there, and are hoping we can see "A" . So, is he working?

On Thursday, it was still the strobe lights.

Re: Is the Yeti working in E.E.?

I had read on one of the Disney-fan sights that the stress caused by the yeti moving is too much, and they it probably won't be placed back in motion again. So the strobe effect will likey be permanent. Hopefully some WDW cast member can give us further insight on this.

My understanding of the situation, as clarified by an EE CM that I used to work with, is that the stress to the foundation is causing damage to the structure that only a major overhaul can repair. So, though it may work on very rare occasions (I don't think you'll see it), we won't see it back online reliably until after EE goes down for extended rehab. And its going to be a while before that happens, as EE is something of an anchor at DAK for now.

Re: Is the Yeti working in E.E.?

Sadly the repairs probably won't happen until after DAK gets a new E-ticket which takes focus off Everest for a bit...but that won't likely happen until they build something on the Beastlie Kingdomme plot...which is probably at least four years away. Since many people visit AK primarily w/ Everest in mind, there would probably be many complaints if EE were shut down. Unfortunately those same guests will thus be treated to a less inspiring version of the ride.

Re: Is the Yeti working in E.E.?

Yep! It's the strobes for the foreseeable feature. The Yeti is the size of a huge room - if you have ever seen the History Channel video - its base is damaged and this may be having an effect on the mountain's integrity. So he's switched off and in mode B. Incidentally, does he have a Disney name like his cousin Harold at DL?

Honestly, if I hadn't been told what was going on, I wouldn't have noticed. It's not as if you stop in front of the yeti with plenty of time to study his motion. For the quick glimpse you get as you go by I was perfectly fine with the strobe effect when I rode it last week.

Actually, I got some intel (of midgrade reliability... I think it will pan out) that the replacement components are on-site and will hopefully be integrated in the not too distant future (ie, one or two weeks). I didn't drill down to the exact issue, but the cracking foundation does appear to be the issue.

If that's true that would be awesome, as I'm headed back likely next spring. The only time I rode...I'm not sure, but I think it was in B mode. But at least back then, the cloud effect on the mountain-top was turned on, which I hear often isn't the case. I thought that was a really neat touch, as clouds on the real Everest do look just like that.

I haven't heard of this cloud effect before. Sounds really neat. Well, I hope Kevin Yee is right!

I've never actually seen the Yeti in the strobe mode, I'm almost curious to see how much of a difference it makes. That swinging mitt is certainly impressive.

Not a chance.

I have also read that the problem is being sorted out at the moment.
