January 2009 - help please

Hello...new here. We are planning a trip to WDW for Jan. 2009. We have been to WDW several times, but never in Jan. We either want to go jan 3 to Jan 10 or Jan 10 to Jan 17. After reading other posts, my concern with my first set of dates is the WDW marathon. My second choice runs into MLK weekend. Which week should have lighter crowds?

Thank you.
Michelle

Hi Michelle,

Welcome! Let's see. Jan. 3 will have a lot of people as will Jan. 9, 10 & 11. I think I would go with the first week, then you can head over to Hollywood Studios on Jan 4 and still see the Osborne Christmas Lights. They are FABULOUS!

I would go the Marathon weekend, that's typically done in the mornings and is over by the time most guests get to the park. I think it will be the most crowded the MLK weekend. However, you are going during the least crowded time of the year (yay for you so I doubt either weekend will give you much trouble.

My vote is for the marathon weekend though.

Have a great trip and Welcome to Mice Chat!

I think we will be there around Jan. 11th! That's my father-in-law's 50th birthday. Don't know if we will begin or end our trip around his bday!

Dfeinetly go the first weekend. My brothers B-day is on the 7th of January. We wen during MLK weekend and it was really crowded. Everyother time after that we went the wwek before that and it was great nobody there. Plus all the Christmas stuff was still up which was awesome. MLK weekend all the Christmas stuff is down. Plus I read after MLK weekend a lot of refurbishments start which isn't as fun.

Sad Re: January 2009 - help please

We've gone MLK week for the past several years... each year it has gotten more and more crowded.
It used to be a great time to go.
I was just checking rates for the places we normally stay and there's no availability at our first choice Marriott properties -- a sign that it may be crowded again this year.

With limited availability -- we may decide not to go this year.

I predict a crowded MLK week.
