Now It's Time To Say Goodbye To Our "Pal Mickey"

According to a report at 'wdwmagic', Pal Mickey is being discontinued. They will still maintain the service to accomodate folks who currently have the plush doll however only time will tell how long that will last. I wouldn't expect they would spend the time or money to update any of the services as attractions change either but again, we shall see.

Pal Mickey, the interactive plush that was introduced in 2003, will be discontinued. Although Pal Mickey will no longer be available for purchase, the interactive plush will continue to operate in the four theme parks as they do today. Pal Mickey will continue to be sold until current stocks are depleted.

I'm glad I held off getting one. I kept hearing rumors of a Goofy version and wanted one of those instead. Oh well. One of the most overpriced stuffed animals ever anyway.

I have retired mine to the shelf in my computer room. He was fun, while he lasted, and when he stopped working, I sat him down. Much like a baseball player in a slump.

Oh thank God. LOL, i never liked Pal Mickey for some reason. Just thought it was a gimmick that had some potential, but they never met it.

Pal Mickey has a special place for us. My wife (her first visit) and I went to WDW for a 2-day pre-cruise visit and rented a Pal Mickey for a day. What a whirlwind as we park-hopped Epcot, MGM, and AK always keeping our ears open for Mickey to chime in. The best times were when you weren't expecting it, like leaving RnR after my wife's first time and having Mickey chime in about how fast the ride was!

It was a sad moment when we returned him the next day at MK.
Maybe you folks can tell me though. Does gettin' two womenfolk mean you're the winner or the loser?

Good call on Disney's part. I never cared for PalMickey in the least and am glad to see the service discontinued. Now, if they could pull the plug on pin trading and the JonBennet Boutiques... it would be a better Disney experience all the more.

Ok Now I'm going to be paranoid that mine will stop working, I have one of the originals and after many many visits he's still chiming in with a mix of info and bad jokes, I love that lil guy... He has his own special place on the shoulder strap of my camelpac when we tour the parks...

Pal Mickey was not a huge revenue generator, BBT and Pins are. In fact your travel agent will soon be able to book a BBT appointment with your package at WDW via the agent's portal (vrs calling it in as we do now), which to me means it's bringing in HUGE profits for them... Disney doesn't change their booking engine on a whim...

The pins are mass produced in china and are not very expensive, I can get them for a couple dollars each in any imprint I like in small quantities, the quantities Disney buys them in they much be less than a dollar each, so huge profit there and it remains extremely popular. Sorry I don't see either of those going away anytime soon...

I love my Pal Mickey. I guess I'll take him for one last trip this December. I will admit that sometimes I want to ring his neck cuz his jokes are SO corny.

Sad, I was hoping for a Pal Stitch to come out but it appears that it won't now.

Re: Now It's Time To Say Goodbye To Our "Pal Mickey"

I went into the store that use to sell Pal Mickey at AK yesterday. I asked a cast member if they had any remaining to sell. He said that they didn't, but they are working on something new. Maybe a newer version. He didn't have any information about when it would come out. Has anyone else heard anything?

At the Orlando Outlets, there is a Disney Character Outlet. They sell a couple of remaining Pal Mickeys. Hope this info helps.

FYI.. every outlet in the Orlando area seems to have a Disney Character shop in it.

As for Pal Mickey. I am glad it's going. I thought it was a silly gizmo and way too overpriced for what it was.
