It's so overwhelming! I love the Cheddar Cheese Soup but I honestly can't recall any items that I particularly loved last time. Gotta have Lobster and Crab at the Boston booth.

I'm pleased to see a few drinks that are neither wine nor beer, since I don't like either.

Re: It's Sip N Nibble Time! (Food and Wine Festival Menu)

My husband REALLY enjoyed the maple glazed salmon in Canada, the beef empanada in Chile, and being from Louisiana loved the etoufee and gumbo, he enjoyed the perogies from Poland, the Kefta from Morrocco, the durban chicken from South Africa, the chicken sha cha from China and the pot stickers.

He's kicking himself cause he couldn't remember where the prawns were from (Australia) so, he didn't get to try them.

And this is way I'm kicking myself for not going. FOOD. I'm a total foodie when it comes to ethnic stuff.

Hubbie and I were just discussing what we'd eat just now.

Peace!

Re: It's Sip N Nibble Time! (Food and Wine Festival Menu)

My impressions from opening weekend

Boston – Hops & Barley
New England Lobster Roll $7.00 - Overpriced, but some nice big chunks of lobster in it

Samuel Adams Boston Lager $5.00 (12 oz.); $11.50 (22 oz.) - What is the great thrill. I fail to see it, there are much much better beers out there. I was suprised to find that SABL uses no bittering hops in their brew. All the hops are finishing hops. Or so said the kid running the tasting.

New Orleans, Louisiana, USA:
Cajun Crawfish Etoufee $4.00 - Two thumbs up
Seafood Gumbo (shrimp, crab and catfish stew) $3.75 - Another two thumbs up

Santiago, Chile:
Camaron con Pebre (shrimp with cilantro sauce) $4.00 - Meh. I like cilantro (its my "secret" ingredient in the salsa I make. I did not taste a whole lot of cilantro going on in this dish.

Mexico City, Mexico:
LA Cetto Petite Sirah $3.75 - Not quite as spicy as I like a Syrah, but still nice.
Lyon, France:
Escargot Persillade en Brioche (snails with garlic butter in brioche) $4.50 - I have had them before. Passed this year. All that butter is just too much grease

Munich, Germany:
Spaetzle with Creamy Mushroom Ragout $3.25 - Meh on the Spaetzel (mine is better ), I guess it gets gummy in the holding hot boxes, but bonus points for a very tasty ragout.

Regensburger Sausage with sauerkraut in a pretzel roll $3.75 - Sausage, one of my basic food groups. I like Regensburger sausage, luckly I can get it at my local pork store. I still don't get the thrill about pretzel bread / rolls.

Schloss Reinhartshausen Old Vines Riesling $5.00 - Oh that was nice.

San Juan, Puerto Rico:
Mofungo (green plantain mash with pork cracklings and Shrimp Salsa) $3.75 - Bleah, easly the worst dish I had the whole time. Not like any other mofungo I have seen. All dried, and WAYYYY too much cracklins in it. I mean heck, I like cracklins as much as the next guy, but this was more craklins than plantains.

Frozen Mojito $6.50 - Mint from a Scope bottle. Ewwwww

Cape Town, South Africa:
Bobotie with Mango Chutney $3.00 = I had seconds - enough said

Goats du Roam The Godfather Red Blend $3.00 - It's Goats DO Roam, or Cotes Du Rhone. Goats du Roam means Goats of Roam which makes no sense. Yeah, the CM at the booth did not care when I told him either. Anyway. I allway enjoy the Goat's - not as much as the Cotes, but the diffence in bottle prices makes up for the difference in quality. As an aside, the Goats do Roam Shiraz at the Tusker House - now thats what I call a Shiraz

Tokyo, Japan:
Spicy Tuna Roll $3.50 - Meh, not the best tuna I have had by a long shot, but then they are holding it pre made in a cold box for who knows how long

Ozeki Dry Sake $3.00 - Phonedave likes, quite dry, and a bit astringent.

Re: It's Sip N Nibble Time! (Food and Wine Festival Menu)

I actually wasn't going to look at the menus this year, preferring to just wander and discover. But I'm at work on a boring Saturday, so I went ahead and read the list. Looks like I'll have no trouble filling up at least 3 or 4 meals without repeats. Lots of great choices (and I LOVE that plum wine!!!).

May I express what I think should be on the following menus?

Buenos Aires, Argentina:
Pastel de Choclo (Beef and Corn Casserole) $3.75
Grilled Beef with Chimichurri sauce $4.25
Bodega Norton Reserva Malbec $4.00
Bodega Norton Reserva Cabernet $4.00
Bodega Norton Chardonnay $2.50
Bodega Norton Torrontes $2.75
Dasani Water $2.00
Evian Water $3.25

/\ /\ Looks good but I would add Empanadas de Pollo or Sandwiches de Miga (crumb sandwiches with ham, cheese, mayo or egg salad and tomatos) instead of the Pastel de Choclo.

Bologna, Italy:Baked Ziti $4.50
Sausage Pizza $4.50
Cream Puff with Mascarpone and Gianduja Chocolate $3.50
Placido Chianti $4.00
Sartori Pinot Grigio $4.00
Tantinel Prosecco $5.00
Moretti Beer $5.50
Virgin Primavera (strawberry and white peach nectar cocktail) $3.50
Acqua Panna $2.00

Get rid of the Ziti, Pizza and Cream Puff. Add an Antipasto con Prosciutto di Parma, Sopresatta e Pancetta (cured ham, specially dried sausage, and 'real' bacon.
Polenta con ragout di Salsiccia e Provolone ('grits' with ragout of fennel sausage and with melted Provolone cheese). Or Risotto al sapore funghi Porcini e olio di tartuffo (Risotto with Porcini mushrooms and truffle oil).
Last but not least, Zuppa di Vongole alla Sambuca (Clams in shell in a Sambuca and butter sauce with diced tomatos and pancetta).

For drinks, add Rosa Regale - Banfi and Birra Peroni. Please get rid of Aqua Panna, honestly the worst tasting water I have ever had.

The mouse catch is a cheese sampler.

I highly recommend the Manchego. The absolute best cheese in the world besides Parmiggiano Reggiano and Sardo Argentino, in my opinion. Manchego with quince jelly is fantastic.

For drinks, add Rosa Regale - Banfi and Birra Peroni. Please get rid of Aqua Panna, honestly the worst tasting water I have ever had.

mmm Your suggestions are quite delicious!

Great suggestions everybody, it looks like it's going to be another great year.

I highly recommend the Manchego. The absolute best cheese in the world besides Parmiggiano Reggiano and Sardo Argentino, in my opinion. Manchego with quince jelly is fantastic.
