Anyone ever stay at the cabins at Fort Wilderness?

    Hey all!

I am going to stay at the Fort Wilderness cabins when I come to visit Disneyworld next October and I am so excited!

I was wondering if anyone has any pictures of when they themselves stayed there??

Sorry, I have not stayed there, so can't help you with info.

Perhaps this will help if you don't get any responses here?

I styed at the cabins years ago... Unfortunately I don't have any pictures from when I stayed... I can say that if you are going with a large group the extra space is nice... Also if you have a car fill the fridge off property... Their convenience store was kinda lame... and really over priced...

Best placeto get groceries is at the Crossroads - southeast corner of property at Lake Buena Vista - intersection of SR 535 and I-4.

Go here for lots of images of cabins:

Re: Anyone ever stay at the cabins at Fort Wilderness?

Our family, two adults and two teenagers at the time, stayed there in 1999. Upside: Plenty of room, nice deck w/BBQ, personal parking space right at your door, kitchen with dishwasher, two cable TVs, very quiet at night. Pretty quiet in the day, too. If you forget to wash your breakfast dishes, the maid will do them.

Downside: If you don't have a car, you'll spend a lot of time on Disney buses getting anywhere. The place is HUGE, and has it's own internal bus routes.
Have bicycle, will ride. Finished 2012 with 10,089 miles, 683 hours, and 482,000 feet of elevation gain.
    2013: 201 rides, 8171 miles, 544 hours, 480K feet.

Not to repeat the previous post, but the cabins are my favorite place to stay. My family and I stay at the cabins at least once every year. They are really nice and have that home away from home feel. It is a bit pricy, but if you do not have a vehicle you can have groceries delivered to your cabin. Also if you have not already call the bike barn, and reserve an electric cart to get around in, that way you will not have to rely on the buses as much. The carts run around $50 for 24hrs. Make sure that when you are their that you look at what is left of the lawnmower tree!

Like others have said, the cabins are awesome. We ALWAYS stay there - a couple times a year actually. Here are a couple of my points.

    - PROS: Lots of room for up to six people, kitchen, barbecue, deck, set in the woods, homey, boat to the MK, boat to Wilderness Lodge and Contemporary.
    - CONS: Bus system totally sucks, only one bathroom.
    - The bike barn doesn't rent carts anymore. They rent them at the Outpost or reception building.
    - Goodings at The Crossroads shopping center is EXPENSIVE. There are cheaper grocery stores just as close (like Publix over by Celebration).

Here are some pictures from one of our trips.

You can call 1-407-824-2742 and reserve carts at the bike barn.

All I can say is we were at FW a week ago and they were NOT renting carts at the bike barn. They were only renting them at the outpost. Maybe it was a temporary thing, but that's what the status quo was during our 11-day stay.

Cabins are fun, but a lot of folks are turned off by them since the bunk beds are in the same bedroom as the queen bed. So if your looking for a separate private bedroom for mom and dad you may want to keep that in mind...

Mom and Dad can sleep in the living room on the murphy bed. That's what we do.

Have stayed several times at the Fort. Don't have pictures on hand, but go to Disneycampers.com and you'll find all sorts of pictures of the cabins and the campgrounds. Have fun it's one of my favorites places to stay!

I love Fort Wilderness! Though I would personally stay away from Crossroads for groceries - Goodings is uber-expensive. I would either get items from GardenGrocer.com, or go to Publix or Winn Dixie if you have a car (Publix is my favorite, with the best bakery/deli, etc.)

Trails End has good food, and there is so much to do there.

Re: Anyone ever stay at the cabins at Fort Wilderness?

Ok you Fort Wilderness fanatics, we will be in a cabin during the last week of December I have some questions:

    - which Publix do you go to and exactly where is it (directions please)?
    - what is the deal with the Golf Carts (price, availability, etc.)?
    - how does the Campfire/Movie event work and is it only a seasonal thing?
    - how well and often do the boats run to the MK?
    - where does the Electrical Pagent go in relation to FW?
    - can you rent a Water Mouse from FW?

any and all help is welcome and greatly appreciated !!
