How are the rooms that Disney puts you in? I ask just because I have heard horror stories somewhere (can't remember where) about them (and about the roomates too). Obviously if I do enter this program eventually, I wouldn't let the room ruin my stay, but I'm just curious. Thanks.

Re: College Program

I stayed at Chatham in a six bedroom and never had a problem. The rooms are big enough. We had 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, and decent size living room and a kitchen. I was there in 2002 and Chatham as a whole was in very good shape. It was a great place to stay. I never really had a problem with my roomates. For the most part they were all a lot of fun. One guy was a little strange but it wasn't that big of a deal.

Hooray for Entertainment CPs!!! *high five* I was the same way - trying to figure out how to get back there. Still am.

Re: College Program

Was anyone here in the program during Fall 2001? I was down there at that time, and wondered what anyone else thought about all the program cut backs after 9-11. I thought it was an interesting time to be down there, but my hours getting cut back sucked. My first day of work was 9-10 so I only worked 30 hrs a week for most of my four months.

I was show keeping [ custodial] or what evre the call it at DTD, stayed in Vista Way room 3511, and turned 21 two days after arriving there. [After turning 21 I did learn something important about the Walgreens outside of Vista, discount on booze...]

Re: College Program

Do any of you alumni have any tips for the interview process. I know the obvious ones like dress nicely, be clean shaven, and smile. But I was wondering what types of things you guys did to distinguish yourself from other candidates.

I actually started this thread, http://micechat.com/forums/walt-disney-world-resort/606-disney-college-program.html before I had my interview on Valentine's Day of this year. That should help give you some advice. But other than that, just be yourself! You're a Disney fan.. you should be a shoe in as long as you show the Disney spirit. As a fan you know what Disney looks for and wants of their Cast Members. So if you can present that because it is what you are then you have no problem. As for me, I have found that many individuals down here are not here because they love Disney as much as I thought they would be. They are here for a semester in FL and the Disney gig is a side thing. So if you can present that is not what you are in it for then you have nothing to worry about.

Re: College Program

Cool thanks a million, I probably won't interview till next semester, But I am so psyched about it now. The only bummer is that after talking to my academic advisors, it looks like i won't be getting any credit for the program. I still am going to do it though! Who knows maybe I'll find a loophole in the credit system between now and next summer.

You can always petition for credit or more credit after you get back by showing what you did, etc. Or you can take online classes to get credit from you school.

Re: College Program

so anyways.....

I think my telephone interview went pretty good on the whole.
Ironically enough, I now work at a huge disney store (on of the few good ones left) here in San Francisco (just hired).

anyways, one of the questions (actually a tough one if you think about it unlike most of the ones given in my telephone interview) was "If a child was kicking you (p.s. you're Cinderella), what would you do?"

Ya. What would YOU say to that one, eh?

I'm hoping I answered rightly by saying sonething along the lines of the following: "Well, I guess first I would look for the child's parents & try to acess the situation as to what was going on. Then if that didn't stop him/her, I would ask my attendant w/ the use of a codeword "Oh no! I'll be late for tea!" if she could help me in dealing with the situation (aka get away)."

Oh gosh! I went too far into detail, didn't I?

So I then quickly added... "But I mean, I'm sure you have a protocal for these type of things, so I guess not knowing that, that's just what I guess I'd do".

Crud.

Do you think I'll be OK? Honestly? Or did I totally screw up here?

Oh well... There's still the charicter audition two weeks away... Maybe I'll be lucky & they'll actually get to meet me in person there?

I think your answer was fine. If you smile, demonstrate enthusiasm, good grooming habits, manners, flexibility in job assignment, and intelligence, you got the job.

BTW, I was a CP way back in '93. I'm old, really really old. I was in a three bedroom at Vista Way with four other people (the last guy never showed) and it was fine. Back then Vista Way was the only complex, so we shared with the internationals. That was great! What an amazing cultural experience!

The college program was a truly excellent...just go with an open mind and know you'll have some bad days and some good days...and try to learn as much as you can.
