Apply for a role where you would like to work (Entertainment or Attractions, for example). It is then very easy to get a part time position in which you can start building a company history. After being part-time, depending on how crowded your LoW is at the time it is definitely possible to go full time. It certainly isn't easy, but if you are willing to pickup shifts you can do alright.

orrrr rely on picking up seasonal shifts at World Showcase Custodial and take my chances at casting for full-time options avaialble?

I plan on graduating May 2009.
Have you considered a professional internship? When do you graduate? Most professional internships start in January, I believe. HOWEVER, there is a loophole, if you're graduating in May: do a Fall Advantage CP, apply for a PI in October, and then work/wait until January, all the while building contacts.

What's your major?

Certainly, if your goal is to stay within the company, I would do another CP. While you're on it, though, you might consider researching the opportunities for professional internships in your field. I gave it a quick glance, and they offer engineering/information technology internships- is that up your alley?

If you do decide to do a PI, though, be sure to keep your management in the loop. That's a good start to networking. Good luck!

Re: College Program

Packwingfn,

I had a buddy that was on a CP for Spring Advantage (January through August) and his manager helped him to get a PI that ran from June/July through June of next year. So he transitioned right over into his new role.

Seemed like a pretty ideal situation to me.

Re: College Program

Did he already graduate? I would love to do a CP from August-January in Fall 09 to get another taste inside the parks with another role then transition into a PI if I network myself with my managers well enough after I've completed the CP starting in January.

But I've heard that you can only apply for a PI if you're still in school which brings in my dilema.

I want to do a CP because I liked working inside the parks and I know it will be low-wage and I would have to work hard but I've always worked hard (in my part-time job and in school) so I'm used to that. But I also want to do a PI because that would be smart but If I can only apply for one come next spring, I'm leaning towards CP more so than PI right now but I bet in a few weeks, I'll be leaning towards PI than CP...its so crazy I know

Hey I'm curious I know I still have a little ways to go into I can particpate in this but I would love to participate when I am old enough. Could you tell me what you do that would be a great thread to.

Nono, it's a Loophole. If you graduate in Spring or Summer, you can do a Fall CP, and then apply for a Spring PI. The CP maintains your eligibility. One of my fellow reps graduates in Summer '09, and he is planning on doing this exact thing.

As to all that, you've got the right idea, I think. Good luck in your decision!

Hey there, Jack! We've got about 79 pages on the College Program here. What would you like to know?

Re: College Program

Thanks bibliophile... I'm so glad to hear about the loophole because i do want to have one last college fun before I move on to the real world with full time job/professional internships and with the CP, I have a good chance to network myself with my managers and co-workers and fellow CPs to build up my network down there in Florida.

Re: College Program

Just had my interview today for the college program and I felt like it went very well. I hope to get in because this is something I have been wanting to do for quite some time. Does anyone know like an estimate of how many people get in? Cuz I am now really anxious to find out but afraid I will get denied.

It depends on what role(s) you selected on the application. If you picked at least three potential roles and sounded competent in your interview then you likely have little to worry about.

Re: College Program

I selected Character attendant and got asked why I would want to do that, I also selected attractions, merchandise, and janitorial. Hopefully I get into one of those positions.

One of my best friends was a Character Attendant after having too many asthma attacks in entertainment. She loved it, but also said that they had lots of positions open there. Granted this was last March.
