What can I expect from Fantasy in the Sky?

We're ending our WDW vacation () tonight with a trip to the MK, to catch Holiday Wishes and then Fantasy in the Sky. The last time I saw FitS was in 1999 however, when I was... er... 8 years old. Nearly a decade later, I can't remember a thing about it, my memories having been blurred by many performances of Wishes, HalloWishes and IllumiNations.

What can I expect from the show? Will it be specific to New Years Eve, or the same soundtrack and show they had in the 70s, 80s and 90s?

You can expect TDLFAN to be watching from the Poly Beach.

But I am expecting the same old show they have done in the past, same music, and some perimeter pyro over the park and the Seven Seas Lagoon.

What's the music like? Standard Disney soundtrack fare?

Same old standard music, yes. This is not DL or HKDL here, so don't get too excited.

The new version of NYE FitS is absolutely spectacular. While the same music will be played, all of FitS will be run with an added NYE tag. The choreography and pyro desogn is completely different as well. Unlike in years past when FitS was played then paused of the countdown and then contiuned with "A Whole New World".
When it debuted last December 29th, the show was the largest performed at the MK, trumped only by the most recent 4th of July show this past Summer.
You will not be disappointed. You will have two sites launching the same shells throughout the show, one behind the castle, on in Seven Seas Lagoon and 8 perimeter sites.

Good call TDLFan, in watching from the Poly beach. The view is fantastic and provides great photo opportunities.

Oh I see.. so they are copying what TDL has been doing for the last few years as well.. using "Whole New World" and all. It wasn't enough they used recycled music from TDL for their "Scream Along with Mickey" castle show, both parade marshall and parade music songs, and now this?? But I will be watching tonight and will hold you Mr. CM you accountable if I am not completely satisfied with what I see.
    You will not be disappointed.
    We'll see about that.

Doesn't sound like anything they have not done before.

Darn WDW, always stealing TDL's amazing ideas! As if it's not enough that all TDL got from WDW was that enormous castle in the middle of the park and that enormously popular Mickey Mouse Revue, WDW just don't stop stealing fireworks show music from them!

Jeez! Someone should have a quiet word with WDW about being more original.

^^ The fireworks are great, just go and enjoy them. If you pay too much attention to everything said on these forums about WDW, you will never enjoy the place

Well, the "Whole New World" section of FitS has been around for many years. It is in the original soundtrack. However, until 2006, FitS was edited to add a countdown and "Auld Lang Syne" section; immediately followed by the last track of FitS, "Whole New World".

CM? As in Cast Member? I do not work for the company nor do I have an intention to work there.

I thought you have seen the show last year and if I recall, from the Poly beach as well.

Indeed, they should add that canopy over Main Street so pasty white folks like you do not get lobster red when visiting WDW from cloudy and boring UK. But Granted, you are correct about TDL not being original in their design but blame WDC for that for recycling old WDW plans on the japanese. What you do not know is... TDL has offered 15 times more original entertainment at this park alone over what WDW has offered in the past 15 years. Why do you think they have to release TDR-specific music CDs like 2-4 times a year? Not to mention the many special events, and the many new attractions. Maybe the day you set foot on TDR, as opposed to blowing your money again and again coming to overrated Central Florida, you will see the difference and agree to some degree that what daddy tells you are no lies. Then again, WDW has doen their job (you are happy with the product) and they do not need to try harder for you.

And Monoman.. I have skipped the MK show for EPCOT's so no, I have not seen the one at the MK in the last two years, and granted, the last time I did from the Poly, the music was not piped over the the Seven Seas Lagoon area. Very disappointing.

I think someone needs to go for a long spa-break, far far from any resort which has the Disney logo emblazoned on it, complete with cucumbers on your eyes and whale music.

Re: What can I expect from Fantasy in the Sky?

    Oh. My. God.

I will NOT apologise for being impressed by THAT.
That was THE most amazing show I've seen at a Disney park. Screw Wishes. Screw HalloWishes. Screw Holiday Wishes. Even screw IllumiNations.
Fantasy in the Sky 2008 was effing jawdropping.
How do you explain to people back home that you were surrounded by 360 degree fireworks which were actual numbers in a New Years countdown? Main Street was stuffed full of MK CMs who were just as excited as guests were to see the show, the atmosphere was electric. The music was simple but nice, the fireworks were enormous and impressive. What a way to finish off your evening.

I'll be sorry to be going home tomorrow. Thanks Mickey
