    Dining recommendations!

It's that time for us again! Time to start planning our next trip to WDW!

We are aiming to take advantage of the free dining plan this year (hopeful that they will stick with the historic dates for offering it) and planning to stay 8/22 to 8/31.

There are some restaurants we for sure want to hit again:

    Boma
    Ohana
    Cape May

We figure we will have at least 8 nights of dining (will prob book sat night as room only) so we need to pick 5 more restaurants for dinner. The criteria? We figure 2 days in each park and don't want to travel too far from each park to dine.

AK days Boma and Tusker House?
    MK days Ohana and 1900?
DS days Cape May and ????
    Epcot ????

We liked Tepan Edo but are not sure it is worth doing again as there are many other great choices. Same with Coral Reef, which we would do again in a heartbeat except I believe they no longer offer crab?

We were thinking maybe Le Cellier, Chefs de France, and/or Garden Grill? Also toying with Askerhous but just not sure if we would be missing out on a better meal elsewhere.

    Others we were considering:

Crystal Palace, Chef Mickey's, Whispering Canyon.

Or of course, any others we might have missed!

    Thanks,
    Amy

In DS I would recommend The Brown Derby and in Epcot you have to try Le Cellier.

I recommend Le Cellier at EPCOT and Sci-Fi Dine in at DHS. Le Cellier was FANTASTIC when we went there and Sci-Fi was lots of fun with really yummy food! Mama Melrose's was yummy at Hollywood too.

I see you go Boma at AKL. Never thought of trying Jiko for a special treat - it's fantastic. And for excitement - California Grill - bookfor around 7:45 then at 9:00 you can go out on the Contemporary roof and watch "Wishes" -it's something different. Epcot - so many great choices - Mexico, Japan, Morrocco, Les Chefs deFrance, Le Cellier - as for Coral Reef I'd rather they hadn't pulled the fish out of the sea in the first place. We found it awful! And as an Englishman - Rose & Crown is average unless you've never had fish and chips. China - no more special than your local Chinese restaurant.

I recommend Kona Cafe at the Polynesian. I've eaten there twice (dinner & breakfast) and the food was really good.

Especially for breakfast. Those pineapple macadamia pancakes are to die for. And if you drink coffee, the Kona coffee (even the Kona blend) is really good. Next time I'm going to try the Tonga Toast though.

Has anyone eaten at Le Cellier on the dining plan? Are you limited to just an entree or can you add a side?

And can you pick a "dessert cocktail" as your plan dessert?

    Re: Dining recommendations!

Our most difficult pick is for our second night at DS. We just are not interested in any of the dining plan offerings at DS. One night we will hop over to Cape May at the Beach Club, and the other night? How long would it take to hop over to either the Grand Floridian or the Polynesian?

Here is our tentative list so far:

    AK - Boma, Tuskerhouse(?)
Epcot - Le Cellier, Chefs de France
    MK - Crystal Palace, Ohana
DS - Cape May, 1900 Park Fare

Obviously, Ohana and 1900 PF are easy access from MK, as Cape May is from DS. The harder choice is which one to pick for the second night at DS.

And if anyone has any critique of those choices, let me know!

    Thanks - Amy

Also - any creative or especially yummy uses for snack credits would be greatly appreciated!! We wound up with extras at the end last year. Had to use them at Pop to get snacks for road. I would rather get yummy treats, ESPECIALLY BREAKFAST ITEMS since we don't really do "breakfast".

    Thanks!

Crystal Palace is ok for kids, since its a character dining experience with Whinnie the Pooh and Friends. The food was OK at best.

Chef Mickey's is a lot of fun. I have eaten at the breakfast buffet character meetup more than once, and always enjoy myself, and the food is very good.

Whispering Canyon is awesome!!! I just experienced it for the first time this past Oct. (Oct 2008) and I would definitely go back again. I had the all you can eat skillet, and man was the food awesome. If you go, make sure you ask for Ketchup!!

    Re: Dining recommendations!

I am curious to hear more about Whispering Canyon - it is on our standby list. It seemed a little thin on choice, and commonplace on what was offered.

Also curious about Crystal Palace - the menus looks really good. We like stuff like shrimp and there were a lot of very interesting choices. For those who didn't like it, did you not like the choices, or was it that they were mediocre compared to what you anticipated? I have heard similar comments for 1900 Park Fare. We just really enjoyed the buffets we went to, especially ones with a wide variety of choices.

And thanks for the breakfast recommendations but I guarantee we won't be using a table service credit for breakfast! We really aren't much for breakfast, maybe the occassional late brunch in place of lunch but that would have to be a counter service breakfast.

I am most interested in places to use snack credits for breakfast type offerings like pastries. We tended to use our snack credits at the Pop Food Court for danishes, but would rather use them for bakery items in the parks.
