Iron Chef Cat Cora Planning New Walt Disney World Restaurant

The restaurant, to be owned and operated by Disney, is scheduled to open by fall 2009 in the space currently occupied by Spoodles.

“I am pleased to welcome Cat Cora and her engaging new concept for Kouzzina to the Walt Disney World Resort,” said Jay Rasulo, chairman, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “This collaboration between Cat and Disney represents a significant step in our ongoing commitment to offer unique culinary experiences and choices for our guests.”

I LOVE Cat Cora. Really good BBQ. Very interesting and creative. It is wonderful to see Disney reaching out to top chefs for inspiration. It they want unique dining experiences, it needs to be about more than just the decor, they need good food as well. Chefs like Cat, can help them with both.

I wonder if they're going to make her dumb down her menu to a choice of six entrees (one beef, one chicken, one salmon, one veggie and a couple of others) or have her put a $23 hamburger on the menu when Disney offers its DDP for free.

I don't mind losing Spoodles since it in no way resembles the terrific location it once was. And since they dropped serving lunch (one of the best values at WDW) years ago, I have tended to dine there only once every few years anyway.

So ... let's see what Cat has in store.

When my husband and I were staying at the Boardwalk in November 2007, Cat Cora was there too (she was on our flight back to LA as well). I wondered at the time if she was doing a show at the resort. I wonder now if she was there doing restaurant planning.

Aww... I really liked Spoodles in 2006. Oh well, this seems like an improvement for sure.
