As far as I know, yes it still is the fastest ride at WDW. When it works.

Not a chance. Major cities like NYC etc carry MILLIONS a day. The NYC subway itself, carried 126 MILLION people in January alone. That's over a billion a year. WDW wouldn't cover a fraction of that.

Re: What records does WDW hold?

In the face off between WDW and TDR, you have to also consisder that TDR is not even owned by the disney company, its owned by the Oriental Land Company, and one of the reason it may seems better mainly at TDS is because management is more will to invest when it comes to planning and building new guest areas. While the disney company with the many different levels of management and excs seems to always get in the way of the plans and ideas of WDI and CM of daily operation.

One topic:
2nd largest aquarium the seas with nemo an friends after the georgia aquarium
3rd largest boat fleet in the world by priv. comp.
And to DubaiLand, WDW would still be the largest recreational resort in the world by one company with DubaiLand being made up of many indenpently owned and ran themeparks, resorts, and ect.

I agree with Flynnibus. Even the Tokyo train systems have always carried much much much more riders than even the NYC transportation systems. There is no way the puny monorails at WDW would ever top that, or even the ridership of the local Linx buses in Orlando.

I am happy with that since I will continue to whine and praise when due.

Re: What records does WDW hold?

I do recall the 'watercraft' fleet thing from years ago. That one seems reasonable.

The point about 'most submarines' was stupid and is really just a gimmick.

There are probably lots when you come to things like the operational side of the park.

Here's an odd one turned up in a google search (from 2002) Wal-Mart Attempts to Break Guinness World Record Set by Disney. | Article from The Sun (Port Charlotte, Florida) (via Knight-Ridder/TribuneBusiness News) | HighBeam Research

Quote:
Mar. 25--ENGLEWOOD, Fla.--The tiny 2-year-old was all smiles as her little body was bounced into the air each time her mother hopped up and down.

"She's heavy," Wendy Chrysler said of her daughter, Veronica.

Veronica's mother was helping Veronica become a part of Wal-Mart's goal to beat the Guinness world record for the most people doing the "Bunny Hop" at the same time. Currently, Disney World holds the title with 1,241 people hopping to the Bunny Hop.

Wal-Mart stores nationwide participated in the synchronized hop to reach its goal of at least 1,500 hoppers. The hop, which began at 2 p.m., was sponsored by Energizer batteries.

Re: What records does WDW hold?

Hmmm in regards to that article. Now that Disney is going cheap and cutting back quality by degrees... I think WalMart doesn't stand a chance.

Re: What records does WDW hold?

Theme Park Attendance

In 2007, at least, MK (17 million) was the top attended theme park in the world. DL (14.8 million) was second, with TDL (13.9 million) coming in a close third. These are from 2007 though...
(EDIT: according to All Time Record Attendance At TDR! 27.2 Million Visitors In '08, the park attendance for TDR increased 7%, even if you assume that TDL attendance increased 7% (it doesnt mention TDL specifically) it only slightly edges out DL attendance for 2007, at 14.9. Assuming that DL increased in attendance, TDL is still third, and therefore MK is still the top attended park in the world.)

And can you believe it, DCA is 13th, beating IOA at Orlando, USH, Sea World SD, and HKDL. Not bad.

On the monorail subject, the WDW monorail system carries more passengers than any other monrail system in North America. Which isn't saying that much, but it sounds good.

Re: What records does WDW hold?

Just one question.. besides the monorail systems at WDW, DLR and Vegas.. are there any others in North America?

And yes, I still think the attendance survey is a bunch of croc.

This post by micechatter Fukai says it all...

Every ride is jam-packed and can have two-hour plus queues.

Every walkway is jam-packed.

Every popcorn cart has a 30 minute queue.

I have never seen Disneyland or Walt Disney World even remotely that busy. Unless you stand in the middle of Tokyo Disneyland on a busy day, you can't believe the crowds. And it's like that most of the year.

The very idea that the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World is the most visited park in the world is absurd--it's so obviously false that it's hard to even believe anyone would try to make such a claim.

That is ok. We are not in North Korea

If more Disney fans took the time to go and see the best Disney parks in the world they would also whine over the fading magic in the Magic Kingdom.

There are eleven monorails in North America that serve a real purpose.
North America Index

There are a few more that are just rides.

Not sure if Vegas is included on that, but after living there for two years I must say that it serves no real purpose. Maybe someday when they actually extend it to McCarren and up to Freemont street it won't be a total waste of space...

And the Jax, FL one is an absolute joke.
