Talking POP in Sept. Please help

I am staying at the Pop Century in Sep.
Has anyone taken a taxi from the resort the local Wal-Mart?
If so what was your cost?

I have tried to look at other posting and at on line reservation systems for taxi companies but I am coming up with a very large price range with no real answer.

I have tried searching the site but once again I have not come up with anything.

    Thank you for your help.

I thought I heard somewhere on here that you could call up outside grocery services to bring you items, you pay them and you don't pay extra for the trip to the store.

Sorry I've never done this but may if someone else points us both in the right direction of this mystery service that I'm not sure exists... I don't think I've made it up. I must have read about it somewhere. ;o)

Thank you, Micoofy Duck I do know of places like Garden Grocer.com but paying 9.99 per a flat of water and then 12.95 for delivery when I can get the water for 5.99 a flat and we are looking at 4 to 5 flats for out stay I was trying to see if we could get a better deal.

If any one is aware of a better deal please let me know

Cab fares are awfully high, so it would probably even out.

I agree I took cabs on my first trip to Disney World in 2003 and they were high then and even higher now.

Yeah the Walmart is far. I actually had someone tell me I could walk when staying at the POP this past January. I don't know if they honestly had no clue or if they were just mean but I found out how far it was and didn't walk lol. POP actually has a mini grocery store on the premises just so you know.

If your looking to do it cheaper you could a) rent a car for a day and do your Walmart and Disney outlet runs that way, or if you just need groceries/water for around $110 just hire a town car from the airport most offer a free 30 min shopping stop on the way to WDW, not only that but you gain a couple extra hours on property as they arrive faster and leave later than the Disney Magical Express.

I figure if your going to spend the money you might as well do it in style...

If you need to get groceries, there's a Publix that is MUCH closer to WDW than the Super Wal-Mart. It's behind the outlet mall that's a couple miles from Downtown Disney.

Also, the rooms at Pop Century do not have fridges or microwaves in the rooms. You can request one though... for an additional cost, of course.

I read a trip report on mouseplanet where the fellow looked into taking a cab to Publix but found it cheaper to rent a car from the Swan and Dolphin. He had it for only 1 1/2 hrs and they charged him $28. He said that a cab could easliy cost him $50+. This report was from January and he stayed at the Boardwalk Villas.

Looking at this site I figure the walmart is about 6mi away ane the figures for the cab are:
$2.00 for the first 1/4th mile or less
$0.25~30 for each additional 1/8th of a mile*

    that said for the taxi
    (1 @ 1/4 mile) $2.
    (46 @ 1/8 miles) $13.8
total one way $15.8 (plus tip)

    water $4 a case 5 cases about $30 total

    for a total of $60

or I can order on line and get5 cases of water for $9.99/case ($50.0) and delevery of $13. for a total of $63 and by going to walmart I can p/u other things also

That said I thank you all for your infomation and if you you have any other tips lease let me know

Locally, we call that particular Wal-Mart the "Disney walmart" as it gets lots of CMs' business.

Isn't there a Super Target that's closer to WDW now? They're way better than Wal-Mart any day.

Yes. Past that "Disney Walmart" about a mile ahead, make a left turn on the stop light at 192, and a quarter of a mile ahead is a Super Target on the left side of the road.

I had stayed at POP in Oct 2008 (granted I had a rental car to get around) and the hotel is situated closer to one of the gates that would take you out near Old Town. I know there are shops around there, so I am not sure where a cab would take you that the fare would be high. One option you might want to look into -and I am not sure if they would take you to a wal-mart- is Maingate orlando international airport taxi service kissimmee. They seemed to reasonable rates when I had looked at their site. Again, not sure if they are available to just take you to another park in the Orlando area or to wherever you want to go...

Good Luck, and enjoy POP. Its an awesome hotel
