I'm excited, especially since that means it'll be MUCH smoother than before.
you sure on that? DL's version had audio for years before they did that whole track change thing. I guess I just don't see that as being a necessary need for WDW to have audio.

I'm also fairly indifferent to the addition of sound. Personally I'd like to see the light leak problems minimized a bit. I love the Peoplemover integration of the ride but really everything else that causes light leaks needs to go.

The story is that the weight of the audio is what did in Disneyland's track.

I don't get "On-Board Audio" from

It's ENTIRELY possible that this is not an on-board audio system but just sound effects throughout the ride. They already have sound effects in the pre-lift tunnel and the break run. It's concievable that Disney has figured out a way to add music off-ride that will be just as good as on the ride.

If the quality of off ride audio is as good as on-board, it would make more sense to use it. For one thing, it would mean less wear and tear on the tracks...taking weight issues into consideration.

Exactly.

Everybody is getting all technical with weight ratios for new trains, etc and nobody from Disney has said anything about new trains, on-board audio, etc.

Re: Space Mountain On-board Soundtrack Confirmed

Not on board audio is still an improvement, but it would be better on board, because that way it could be syncronised with the track like DLR's: if you listen to the sliding strings in the background, they go down in pitch when the ride does and up when the ride does. Sometimes it slides back and forth, which I think means a turn. Listen to it with that in mind, and you can almost feel the ride!

Firmly agreed, Mission 2 does not hold a single candle to From the Earth to the Moon. The theme of Mission 2 is incredibly generic and not as timeless, the music is absolutly nothing compared to the Epic soundtrack the previous version had...and due to poor upkeep the ride is very rough. That and the effects (which were probably the only real upgrade), can be very spotty at times.

In regards to WDW's SM, I agree that just because the site said there would be audio...doesn't mean it's going to be on-board.

Yea but the ride itself is still better in Paris. SM in WDW doesn´t do anything... it just goes round and round... poff were done. A not so wild ride in space. Pointless. All that space to no use.
If they packed it with effects beyond anything anyone has seen... sure it´s good.... but we all know they wont. They´ll just clean it up a bit, perhaps put the lights on and theme it to Stitch.

Did they already change the site? I don't see audio mentioned anywhere. Or am I missing something?

Yeah... if you go back to page 2 I already had this conversation with Stichon... thanx though.

They did! Which is telling in three respects:

1. Management reads these boards.
2. There will not be any on-board audio (when it opens).
3. Even after getting edited, the Space Mountain web page makes no mention of any plussing of the attraction. So expect very little to be different from the pre-rehabbed Space Mountain.

Not sure what you mean by this statement. If anything, the HKDL, DL, and TDL Space Mountains are the most similar of any of the attractions cloned from resort-to-resort. Heck, HKDL and DL even share the same soundtrack!

Also, I'd like to chime in that just a minute ago ya'll were slamming the WDW website for regularly posting inaccurate information, therefore making the on-board audio rumor "inaccurate" because it came from the site. Now, though, you're using the same website to back-up the claim that nothing will change when the attraction reopens simply because it makes no mention of the refurb?

Makes a whole lot of sense.

Re: Space Mountain On-board Soundtrack Confirmed

I doubt they'll put much on the website about the refurb until they officially announce the changes.

This is fairly telling however that they actually took the time to edit out that section. It all but confirms what I've been hearing from those "in the know" and that is on board audio won't be coming when the ride re-opens in November although the ride is being built to be able to support it at a later date.

What later date equals, nobody seems to know. Disappointing.
